Call to discover/movie returning unexpected results

I am calling discover/movie with the following parameters:
region: US
primary_release_year: 2018
with_release_type: 3|2|1
What I am expecting are movies who have a theater release date in 2018 , with the release_date field containing that date.
I am getting quite a few unexpected results, for example:
The Man from Mo'Wax is showing a release_date of 2016-03-13, and the website only shows a 2016 release.
Replicas is showing a release_date of 2019-01-11, and the website only shows a 2019 release.
It is also not clear to me the difference between the parameters release_date and primary_release_date. The following also produces unexpected results.
release_date.gte = 2018-01-01
release_date.lte = 2018-12-31
Any thoughts?

primary_release_year Just the year
It's the year the movie was released and it always appears, here on the site, along with the movie title. Aquaman (2018)
This year is determined by the smallest release date, Year + Month + Day, no matter in which country.
So if it was released in China on August 16, 2014 and released in the USA on September 29, 2017, the primary_release_year will be 2014.
And the primary_release_date will be 2014-08-16
release_date Complete date, with year, month and day
Any date of movie showing anywhere in the world.
Last year, 2018, they probably exhibited in some cinema of the world, to commemorate the anniversary of 50 years, the film 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).
So these commemorative sessions may have been included here in TMDb.
So if you did a search only for release_date last year, you would get the information from the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968).
Theatrical dates have preference over the Premiere dates.

If there is only Premiere then the smallest premiere date will be the date of the movie.
As soon as a date of exhibition in cinema appears, Theatrical, the date will be changed.
Dates in the movie theater, Theatrical, overlap with the Premiere dates (Oscar, Cannes, etc ...).
So we stayed like this
primary_release_year 2018
primary_release_date 2018-08-31
release_date 2016-03-13 + 2018-08-31 + 2018-09-17 + 2018-11-26 > All dates.
