The Movie Database Support

TMDB is really awesome and thanks for it. I wonder how TMDB is managing their image files, I guess they are using Cloudflare CDN with AWS S3 or Google Storage or .... How do they manage files on server and on local backup? and How do they manage hot-linking issues?

Hi @kwodkewe,

Yes, our image service is backed by S3. We also create a cached version of every image variant on S3. This S3 cache is well over 20 million objects now and lets our image servers (where the resizing, cropping, filtering, etc... happens) be stateless.

We don't worry about hot linking right now. Cloudflare has been a great partner with us over the years and our enterprise plan covers the required bandwidth we need (it's not unlimited when you get up to an start paying for enterprise wink).

Over 20 million objects astonished
