@Travis
We have the same in image for backdrop as we have for poster.
Surely this has to be wrong?
It isn't even the right dimensions.
There is over 260 occurrences of this.
Surely validation should stop this?

You also have things like this:
https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/15773-all-the-rage
Where the poster and backdrop returned by the API are the same image.
There are over 10 occurrences of this.

We also have occasions where landscape film posters have been added as portrait posters:

Another occasions of where the new image cropping functionality in the URL leaves us with a poster which has been cropped into a terrible quality backdrop:

These all have IDs below 60k.

There's no change log for these images which means it's from way, way back (~2012 or earlier). There was probably a lot weaker validation back then. There's no way that can happen today (or for many years).
If you're able, it's probably easiest to create a thread in the content issues with a list of the movies and the images and a mod can go through and remove them.

Same as above.
And again, same as above.

best_v2
centers faces which is exactly what it's doing here. However,w533_and_h300_bestv2
should not be used on any posters, it's a backdrop size. On this entry, In Bar, it looks like the same issue as I described above. It was added a very long time ago, before aspect ratios were being checked. Best to just report these ones so moderators can delete them. In this case I just deleted it.P.S.
best_v2
isn’t used that much anymore. There’s better face detection with_face
and text detection with_text
. I vary the 3 options depending on where and what I am using them for.Reply by Adi

@travisbell One thing which would be good, is a flag on backdrops to indicate whether it is a screenshot from the film or promotional material.

There's a whole round of work to re-factor images and on top of the very important regional language support, the other big thing I've been talking about is image tagging. Along with things like DVD cover/theatrical/neutered tags, I agree, screenshot/promo makes sense too. Basically there will be lots of useful tag options once the system can support them.

Is this curated tagging or a free-for-all random tag fiesta?

There will only be support for a set of pre-approved tags. It will not be a free for all.

Amen!
I love tagging, I hate they way it is implemented most of the time.

Is there any justification for using the same backdrop over more than one film?
The correct film: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/2594
This film seems to have gained backdrops from the film above. https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/50226-sans-peur-et-sans-reproche

No, it's just a content issue. Report them and a moderator will delete them.

Did something weird go on behind the scenes for that one?
It is hard to imagine someone uploading something so wrong.
Obviously thought, this is the internet...
