Assistance de TMDB

Just curious. There's are a number of guidelines about whether or not a short film is allowed on the database, are there any for web series (at all)? What exactly qualifies as a web series?

And while I'm asking about web series in general I might as well ask about one I'm considering adding to the db: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLOMJNGCENQ-9QLinPIpybJ8YPPl_jhPdE

Would this be accepted in the database?

If yes, would I use those YouTube release dates or these on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Clip-ASMR-Brandon-First-Meeting/dp/B07BQG1WF6/ref=sr_1_1?s=instant-video&ie=UTF8&qid=1534394966&sr=1-1&keywords=intimate+moments?

Is it okay if I use this thread/topic as the go-to place to ask about the consideration of other web series?

Yup, that's fine. (edit: But maybe do not add all the series to the title?)

it's more that I don't see why we wouldn't have one for Llamas with Hats if we have one for Charlie the Unicorn.

As far as I can tell it's amateur content. He was turned down by professional distributors. And I think there is no "company", FilmCow is the name of the website/YouTube channel.

The series he created for Cartoon Hangover might be okay though (Shadowstone Park).

So, why is Charlie the Unicorn good to be put on the db and not llamas with hats? I just want to understand how to make these judgment calls.

@tmdb24407783 Oh, no. I believe they both shouldn't be in the db. Contributors frequently add incorrect content.

Oh, I see. It was unclear and seemed like you could be saying "The reason why we wouldn't have one for Llamas with Hats but accept Charlie the Unicorn is because Llamas With Hats is amateur content (implying that Charlie the Unicorn is not amateur content)".

I'll report the Charlie the Unicorn entries for incorrect content.

I just stumbled over your report regarding "Charlie the Unicorn" and I might as well ask here:

The first 3 short films were released on a DVD with the name "The FilmCow Master Collection" in 2009, the trailer is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vIN7dGa_Syo. I'm not sure if this would make any difference for TMDb, because it looks like the DVD was self-published (I didn't do much research, that's my first impression). Another detail to think about is that this series was discussed in the press, even the "Time Magazine" said some line about it. However, I'm not sure that's enough for an entry here - it was created non professionally and became a hit on YouTube. I'm going to let someone else decide -> it's a close call for me.

@Janar Yeah, the DVD do not count, they were self-published. And we do not have an exception for viral content: https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/new_content#59f7933c9251413e9300000b

I might be missing something/forgetting something but if Charlie and Unicorn should be removed what about Salad Fingers? I also believed this has "DVDs" that were sold/are selling (but I believe they're not legit- I'm not sure though). I can give links if you want (there were two sites selling them a week or so ago- I haven't checked since). Would it be an exception since it's created by someone who is an established director/actor/writer, David Firth?

(Please do inform me if the DVDs are not legit but the entry should be kept- because I believe the current poster for Salad Fingers being used is the DVD cover and if it is found to be fanmade- then I think that means the image should be reported and removed).

That's what I assumed. I removed all unicorns from the database. scream_cat

In general, for us mods it's always the question if it's professional or amateur content? Not all content, especially on Youtube, is professional -> and our general rules are here:

https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/new_content/59f792cd9251413e93000004#59f7933c9251413e9300000b

We care about those rules, but many users don't and/or don't know about them. Those users add everything no matter what, and that's why there are many entries in the database that shouldn't be there. Sometimes, we find them weeks, months or years after they were added - it is indeed that much and we can't investigate everything. Because our rules are fine, but we often have to investigate titles like the Unicorn series or Salad Fingers to look if they are eligible according to these rules. And this takes lots of time for research and debate about deleting something or not ...

In my opinion, the entry for Salad Fingers is fine. According to the article on Wikipedia, the first 7 episodes were shown at the "Sydney Underground Film Festival" in 2007 (pdf link to the program). In my opinion, that screening is enough to keep it on TMDb - but other moderators might not agree with me, so that's not a final decision.

The poster has to be deleted, though -> it was made by a fan in 2005 for a DVD that did not exist back then (I'm not sure it was ever released on DVD at all since then):

I removed it from the entry! salad fingers_crossed

woops. I was dropped as a kid. The effects are kicking in today. totally forgot I had already seen that it was shown at that festival. I even can't remember whether I found that or someone on the forums showed me that. thanks for removing the image, though now that I remember that festival I would've made an image report instead.

(bonus question: though, would you or would you have not allowed Salad Fingers solely on the grounds that it was created/directed by David Firth- pretending it wasn't screened at that festival)

Though now that you mention users irresponsibly adding things to the db... I'm recalling one or two entries for web series I added when I thought the contribution bible said all web series are fair game to be added to the db.

The first is called Reality Gamemasters. Now that I've properly understood that the amateur guidelines apply to all entries- not just student/school films/series, I would just report it under "Incorrect Content" and asked for it to be removed. However, mods have implied that prevalence in the media/press/interviews may allow an otherwise no-good entry. There was an article on Entertainment Weekly though it does seem to be written by one of the cast members of the web series (one of the hosts), Dalton Ross (who I believe works there at Entertainment Weekly) - and so would it just be considered self-promotion? (I'm so clueless lol). (If it matters- the cast is made up of reality tv show contestants from the reality tv shows, Survivor and Big Brother)

The second one, I would think is amateur content that does not meet guidelines if it were not for the note about permission being possibly granted for established directors/writers/actors, etc. This web series Prep School Blues stars an actor named Bryan Dechart (who...is an established actor? haha, right?). I highly doubt this matters, but the creator/director, Chris Conner has also made a book series based on the web series (I believe) and it's being sold on amazon.

"Sydney Underground Film Festival" in 2007 (pdf link to the program). In my opinion, that screening is enough to keep it on TMDb

As far as I can tell it was the first edition of the festival, and they seem to accept pretty much any content. So I'm wondering why the screening would be enough to make the content professional. thinking

That being said, some of his work were featured by the BBC and Raindance. So he is at the very least very close to professional. It might be enough to allow Salad Fingers (it's an ongoing series).

Bumping topic.

Should "Reality Gamemasters" and "Prep School Blues" be removed?

Look at my previous reply on this topic for more information.

I remove that one. I don't think the exception applies retroactively, unless the content is properly released. (Also, who? tropical_fish )

The first is called Reality Gamemasters.

I'm not sure about that one. I guess it's a proper series?

TBH, I'm not really sure what "established actor" means. I guess he probably isn't.

Curious, what makes you unsure? What's the source of uncertainty?
