The Movie Database 支持

Lately I have been on a mission to rate some old movies (30's, 40's) that have no user rating. I notice that if I go on a movie watching binge that there is a limit of somewhere around 6 movies that I can rate per day before the rating is no longer incorporated into the average rating for the movie. The value is still stored as my personal rating for the movie, when I am in edit mode on the web, however, it's value is not promoted to average value when I am out of edit mode. When this occurs, I have to re-vote on another day, which is a bit annoying.

Is there a way to loosen the rules up a bit to allow more ratings per day? I understand where you don't want someone to inflate ratings or clobber the site, but perhaps 10 movies per day would still be reasonable?

Hi @fbacher,

There is no limit to the number of ratings you can enter in a day. You can add thousands if you wanted.

The value is still stored as my personal rating for the movie, when I am in edit mode on the web, however, it's value is not promoted to average value when I am out of edit mode.

I am not clear by what you mean by this since there's no rating information in any of the edit pages. When you rate a movie or TV show, they go into a queue. This queue is checked every 30 seconds so it can take at least that long before the rating on the item itself is re-averaged.

I think maybe it would help me understand where you're rating the movie (are you using the website?) And also, what page you're saying the rating isn't showing up on.

I was the first to rate the move "The Ship from Shanghai" (1930). I used Kodi's rating plugin to give it a rating of "4". On TMDB I can see that I gave it a rating of 4: https://www.dropbox.com/s/30lxyqg96bcl6sn/The%20Ship%20from%20Shanghai%20%281930%29?dl=0 But if I go to the Search Results page, it has "No Rating": https://www.dropbox.com/s/hb1grfwfrvcm3fh/The%20Ship%20from%20Shanghai-%20No%20Rating.png?dl=0

I rated this movie days ago. To me, this supports my case that I am able to set a rating, but that rating is not always promoted outside of my user view. Tomorrow I'll perform a test where I give multiple ratings in one day and observe when my ratings appear to have no more effect. I'll wait at least 5 minutes between ratings. I'll give the ratings to a single movie. If you prefer, I can give one to different, unrated, movies. I can assign the rating either through the TMDB web interface, or through the Kodi ExtendedInfo plugin.

That's a separate issue. There's a cache in place on most list items that isn't automatically cleared when an item is rated (we get too many ratings to have them automatically clear.)

There's some long term plans in this area that will probably purge items every 7 days but it will most likely never be more instant than that. There could also be some logic for items with less than say, 50 votes or something. I'm not sure just yet.

Anyways, that's the reason you're seeing that on any lists.

If you head to the actual movie page though, you'll see it has a rating.

This may be true, but it is not what I believe that I have experienced. I have sometimes had to wait a while, even 10 minutes or so before my rating gets promoted to the average. However, once I have cast ~6 votes in a day, I have consistently experienced my ratings failing to get promoted to the average, even after waiting a week. I have also seen that this "daily limit" gets reset apparently sometime early in the morning, say 2-3 am CST (I have insomnia a lot). I'll do some more testing to see if I can pin down the behavior.
