It has been neary a year since:

I find this endpoint quite accurate compared to the similar endpoint.

Yes, similar is not very good.
I'm not sure about when I plan to expand the number of results for recommendations but I have created a ticket for it here.

FYI--The limit on recommendations has been expanded to 40.
