Soporte de The Movie Database

Some Message Boards of any types, such as Video Games, Books, Sports, Politics, etc (like IMDB had) should be created.

Until now a General Message Board was created and it did have some problems but I think it should be tried again and now with many different ones.

Did you start this thread because the previous one on the same topic went nowhere, and Travis showed no interest in this tired issue? I wish you luck; but at this point I think you're just talking to yourself. wink

No, because in the other topic it was only mentioned the idea of having a global General Message Board. I'm talking about a different thing.

wink

The genre-specific, etc., boards idea was discussed before, several times. I don't think Travis even reads these types of thread anymore.

If I'm not wrong Travis never closed the possibility of getting them back.

And if you are wrong, then he did close the possibility. wink

I don't think I want to try the more broad boards again... at least not until I have time to hash them out a bit more (which I don't right now). It's not that I'm opposed to the idea in general, it's just a general lack of time which means I have to be brutally honest about choosing the work I think I can actually finish.

Imho, you've got far too many far more important things on your plate, but I wish you luck if you do start a general board(s) again. You and the MODS are going to spending an inordinate amount of time playing whack-a-mole with the trolls.

If it is RUSSIANS who do the TROLLING ... Instead of WHACK a MOLE why not just WHACK and BAN them all in one LUMP SUM by restricting anyone from that area from posting here???

Because trolls can usually stay a step ahead by getting new email accounts, using proxies, etc. I think IMDb finally learned that lesson and threw in the towel.

What about IP numbers???

Can't Travis ID them in that way???

And then BAN anyone with an IP address from a certain area from joining in the first place???

Wouldn't an email also contain the IP address of someone who tries to create a new account here???

IP addresses are server-dependent, not user-dependent. So if a person uses a different proxy server each time they use this site, it looks like a different location each time. If they get kicked off under one account/email addy, they can always get a new addy/account and use a proxy server again to spoof a different location.

If you have more questions, I suggest that you Google "proxy server" or look it up on Wikipedia.

I once geoblocked any Chinese IP addresses from signing up to a site I was moderating (it was a UK based specialist site and so of little interest to Chinese users apart from the ones signing up to advertise their malware laden products). However, if these really are Russians trying to destabilise the West rolling_eyes, they will be quite capable of spoofing their IP addresses - so blocking "Russia" will likely only prevent genuine users from accessing the site.

Doesn't seem fair that a handful of PEST can ruin things for others the way they've done.

As U.S. president JFK said, "Life is not fair." ☹️

The priorities you guys have is regarding movies and TV shows, that's true.

I just think it General Message Boards can be added. Some people in here complain about trolls but... there are trolls in every site.

IMDB had a horrendous "moderating system".

I know but that was back then. Things will always get better.

It's obvious that group of trolls had a specific agenda. That's not gonna happen again.
