The IMDb message boards closed on this date, at right about exactly this present time, one year ago. (Was approximately midnight UK time at the start of 2/20, approx. 7:00p.m. US Eastern time on 2/19.)
All hail to TMDb Movie/TV/Celebrity message boards, and to Travis for instating them! We former IMDb message boards users are very appreciative!

Even though the bulk of the oldsters seemed to have landed elsewhere--glad to be among those who found their way to TMDb.

Yeah.
My Ignore list had grown so long that it was "troubling". Truth is, I couldn't remember WHY some were on the list in the first place.
We’ve all clashed with others about something--somewhere along the way. Some folks can leave it go at “agree-to-disagree”. Others will let it spill over into EVERYTHING they ever say about anything you write from that day forward.
Anyway, didn't want to drag any "built-in" with me; so decided to go the clean-slate route by leaving my old username behind.

I was on IMDb for YEARS (maybe 14? i can't remember exactly anymore). Same username and badge. Not as active as some, I'm sure, but pretty active on many ongoing movie discussions and a few current series. I'm surprised to hear it's only been a year, it seems like longer. I still think it was the dumbest decision for them, so like many of you I'm here on TMDB. Not only that, but now I only rate here as well. I'm wondering how much rating data they lost when the community left...I just had no interest in trying to keep data on multiple sites.

I didn't start on IMDb till early 2009. I'd known of the site since years earlier, but never joined or had significant interest till one day discovering there were message boards for every movie, show, and actor/actress. That's what hooked me. And that reason that I joined there was, eventually - a year ago - likewise what compelled me to leave when they eliminated the feature.

On IMDb boards that trolls spoiled for me it seemed more like teenagers who realised that they could post anything they liked as the boards were more or less un-policed.
I think that TMDb is generally more civilized than the IMDb boards (there are exceptions!) - just need to be a bit busier.

Maybe folks have finally figured out that a Message Board is not theirs to do with as they please; and are making an effort not to kill another "goose."

I agree, but the one gripe I have is that instead of starting a new thread for a movie, TV show, actor, etc., folks too often just add OT stuff to an existing thread.

I regret that hardly anyone posts on TMDb's thousands of available - and most of them still completely empty - actor/actress boards. So often people will post about this or that actor/actress on a movie's or show's board, but no one ever post a word on those same individuals' own message boards.
I've a number of times tried to do my part, though typically no one ever responds with comments of their own. There could be a lot of good activity on actor/actress boards, significantly opening things up, if members would create threads about performers they like or are impressed by in this or that, or that they're a general fan of.

I agree, genplant29. It's really weird, but it almost seems as though folks here don't know how a forum is supposed to work. That's one thing that was much better about the posting behavior at IMDb.
And I am constantly being the first person to post at a board for a movie, TV show or person. After which someone else almost invariable adds an OT post to my thread. Kind of depressing.

Yeah. Default-posting based on “shared experiences”?
--An actor who often guest stars on your favorite sitcom (Board you frequent) is nominated for an Academy Award. Your default move isn’t to go to their page, OR create a page for them, to discuss their success. No, it’s to go straight to that sitcom’s Board and discuss that actor’s achievement with the folks who have had the shared experience of enjoying their work over the years.--
Just seems natural to want to with folks you know are going to be eager beaver receivers.
Probably going to be a hard habit to break…but, we CAN change!

I've already said this before and I'll say it again:
In fact, instead of putting "Discussions" the staff should put MESSAGE BOARDS and in a much more noticeable place.
I think this would help to gain even more movement on the message boards. Many people might don't even know there's message boards in this site.

I completely agree with you on each count.
What I've done, at times, is after having first posted whatever, about, or mentioning, an actor/actress, on a particular movie's or show's board, is then I've gone to that actor/actress' board and create a different, feature, post about them there, that can take things in additional directions, for example perhaps more about career or body of work or life overall.

Yes, I was going to mention the same. It's rather cumbersome to find things on this site. It'd be better to further break up things, so there can be more specific sections/forums/threads, etc.
A lot of times I was looking for something and simply gave up because it seemed like it wasn't there. Too often there's too much "drilling down" into further parts of the site in order to access others.

Along similar lines, if the actor/actress/director/etc. (in other words "Celebrity") overview pages would be like the movie/t.v. ones are, that the three most recent (if any) threads (their Subject line links) appear listed right on the actor/actress' overview page, instead of being (as is the case now) entirely out of sight, out of mind, more people would, I very much believe, participate in those already-existing threads.
Meanwhile, Travis commented on Nov. 23, in a Support forum thread regarding the Celebrity overview pages: "I have some planned work to add a little number up next to the sub nav item, so you would get a glimpse as to whether there's any discussions that way." I think that definitely will prove helpful.
