How reliable are the Popular Movies/Popular TV Shows lists?

Hi,

While browsing the popular movies list I couldn't help but notice how many older movies are featured. Minions (2015) is ranked #1 on TMDB, but only #1,511 on IMDB, I couldn't find it in the top of Trakt.tv's popular list either.

So how reliable is this list?

It is what it is, maybe not what you thought it is.

I guess everything is relative to one's frame of reference. I consider anything before about 1960 an older movie.
