because they tend to be shuffled upon rebroadcasts and in other countries. It's a pain to translate it to other languages otherwise.... Especially when multiple country release date broadcasts thingy's get supported! Like with movie release dates for each country, you know~

I get that, but it still doesn't change the fact that the episode listings are WRONG. The episodes should be tagged and listed based on official sources, like Blu-ray/DVD releases, digital downloads, or archives of the airing dates. The only thing that TVDB gets right (in my opinion anyways) is that they offer to rearrange the episodes (or in this case segments) by the order that they aired, or in which they appear on home video releases. That another feature that TheMovieDB should add. But we shouldn't be splitting segments into separate episodes.

The episodes (or segments) ARE in order they aired (or should be), they are just split, to facilitate the multiple translations, and future features like "translatable" release dates, much like how titles and overviews are already translatable. cast credits are also planned to be translatable by the way! (that's why right now we want descriptive credits to be added in English (for example Mr. Müller instead of Herr Müller), because once they are translatable, every existing cast credits will probably by default be English, it's easier to have it be one language ^{_^} OK I got sidetracked LOL)

By the way, splitting files is super unnneccesary, you can also just name the files like S01E01-02 or something, whatever Kodi or Plex or whatever your media center prefers! That's how I do it too. see more here

Note: Multi-episode files will show up individually in Plex apps when viewing your library, but playing any of the represented episodes will play the full file. If you want episodes to behave truly independently, you’re best off using a tool to split the file into individual episodes.

I know they can be different, which is why I mentioned how TVDB does it. And I understand splitting the segments is helpful translations. But there has to be a better way than labeling those splits as entirely different episodes. I think there should be two "layers" (for lack of a better word) to each episode. The first layer would be the properly tagged episode with both segments as one episode. Then you could have a dropdown button that would have each segment split.

Example.

LAYER ONE (Full Episode): 1x1 Segment 1/Segment 2 LAYER TWO (Segments): 1x1a Segment 1, 1x1b Segment 2

That way you can still have the original air date order (which is how this site says it should be listed anyways), and you can still have the segments split so that they could be rearranged for home video order or different translations.

This would also be helpful for people like me who use plex and dont split their video files for the sake of time. We could include the option to choose the different orders in the api, which could then be used by media servers like plex.

Basically what it comes down to is we need options for this. But listing a segment as an episode isn't the right way.

Yes, that could be a solution indeed, but that would take much programming and time, so, if that will be implemented, until that is, this is the only solution.

For plex, if you don't want or cannot split the files, you can just name your files properly.. like I said before in my other post.

I'm not a programmer so this could just be me being ignorant lol, but I don't think it would be too hard to program an option like I listed earlier. I even remember doing something like what I mentioned in my Database class back in college years ago. Then again, I have no idea what type of database software is used for the site and maybe there is no possible way to do this. The biggest problem would be taking the time to go back and fix everything. But with as big and as awesome of a community of users we have here, that shouldn't be too hard. ;)

This is all a one-man-job by Travis and lots of exiting things are planned (universes YAY!). Maybe he'll see this and comment on one or the other things ^{_^}

I think different orders might have already been on his radar but can't say for sure.

Ouch... Did not know that. Im surprised there isnt at a least a small team of a few people working on this site.

But yeah hopefully he'll see this. I'll be more than happy to help out (with the exception of programming as I said earlier). If he ever does implement these features I would gladly help test them out and even work on reorganizing & retagging a lot of segmented episode.
