I'd like to see support for alternate editions of a given movie for the website and API.
For example:
The Abyss (1989)
Theatrical Release has a running time of 145m Special Edition has a running time of 171m
Perhaps this could be put into the "Alternative Titles" page with some alterations:
Title (can be blank; but sometimes alternate versions change the title entirely ) (NOTE: If the database structure doesn't allow this to be empty if "Edition" or "Running Time" are not blank just put the main entry title in as a default.) Country (can be blank) Type Running Time (if blank it's just assumed to be an alternate title) Edition (dropbox, blank or can choose "Theatrical", "Restored", "Special Edition", "Censored", "Uncensored", "Uncut", "Director's Cut", "Ultimate Cut", etc.)

Yup, this is one of my oldest open tickets. The ticket for it is here.
To do it right I need to design a way of branching data off of the main release and support all of the differences that could be possible. Titles, runtimes, images and potentially cast & crew as well.
I don't have an immediate timeline for it but I suspect it will be completed in 2018. I was hoping to find time for it last year but didn't get to it. It's near the top of my big feature list.

Hi guys- I started a talk on basically the same topic, so I requested mine be closed and will reference my comments here: https://www.themoviedb.org/talk/5b6127b1925141405c00ba77
One question I do have after reading your response Travis ... does that mean that you intend to have each alternate version (like theatrical and directors cut for example) having their own TMDB ID? Also, I would assume that changes made to the "master" of the options would/could then be inherited to the alternate versions? For example, I add an actor to the list on the theatrical, but that actor also then needs placement on the directors cut.

The best Website for Information about alternate Editions/Versions of Movies (Remastered, Extended, Director's Cut, Uncut, Unrated, and so on...) is up to now (to my knowledge) the website "https://www.movie-censorship.com" and for german language "https://www.schnittberichte.com" The name "cencorship" is a bit deceptive, it's all about all kinds of different versions of a movie.
There are already all data available. Instead of re-editing everything on TMDB there might be the possibility of a kind of cooperation regarding the data. I do not know if they work with API's.
But it would definitely be worth considering once to contact and inform.

While they are one of the better sources I have found as well, they are also incomplete and not structured. I am not sure such a thing would even be possible ... and if it were .... not sure it would be a wise move for TMDB to do in the sense of keeping data integrity.

This could also apply on TV Shows. Many have different versions... and numbering (im looking at you netflix!)... :D
