The Movie Database Support

I am looking to edit https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/166248-black-to-the-moon-3d. The title should be "Pup" according to IMDB. Why are the original title and the translated title both locked? Updating either field is ok.

Hi, using IMDb with the correct setting (to show original titles) shows the same original title as we use here. Pup is the US title for this European production and since we don't allow English on English translations, that title correctly goes as an alternative. Data fields are locked by moderators when confirmed to be correct.

The movie title "Black to the moon 3D" does not appear anywhere in the poster, and the poster title "Pup" does not appears anywhere in the movie title. In fact, the IMDB referenced in the listing shows the movie name to be "Pup". Whatever the moderators confirmed, the outcome seems to be wrong when it is this confusing.

The movie title "Black to the moon 3D" does not appear anywhere in the poster, and the poster title "Pup" does not appears anywhere in the movie title.

It is of course possible that whoever researched this made a mistake. I was merely explaining the two policies (why that title was used and why the fields were locked). However, it was incorrect of me to close the topic since you wanted the title investigated.

If an original title of a movie made outside the US is in English, we normally don't add the US title over that title (but in some cases similar to this one it can happen). There are also some exceptions where the US title could become the original, but some other moderator will have to investigate that. It's worth noting that these animated co-productions are usually very confusing, so nothing is new here. cat2 (And my theory in this case after taking a look now is that the original title could be a working title, but again that is something for someone else to dive into.)

The fact that only US posters have been added should not impact the decision about the original title.

To sum up: It is possible that a mistake was made here, but some other moderator will have to investigate.

Also: Make sure you set IMDb so show only original titles. It appears you currently have the default setting which is based on your location.

(Edit: I stopped watching the topic so someone else will take over.)

Just ran into a similar problem. 'Cherry 2000' has no German title and I cannot edit this, because the field is locked. How can I add the German movie title?

If a field is locked but you feel the data is incorrect, you can report this. In the "Overview" menu choose "Report". Then in the "Type of Problem" section you can choose "Incorrect Content" and leave a message.

This normally works pretty well; moderators reply fairly quick mostly. It does happen that reports get overlooked, so sometimes you need a little patience. Or, you sneakily make a post to get people's attention to your report, like I'm doing now. smile Here is a report I made three months ago: https://www.themoviedb.org/person/2359485-il-cho/discuss/5f6132c1069f0e0034a09d2c

Thanks Geert, I filed a report. Let's see, which one of our reports will be worked on first ;-)
