The Movie Database Support

When I save and then try to add another keyword, it seems that the rest of the keywords get overwritten and deleted.

Yes, you have to be careful. If you notice all keywords disappearing, just refresh and try again. It could be useful to save now and then if you add more than just a few.

However, I looked at your changes and the keywords you are adding are not really needed. For example, no need to add "marvel" when we have both "marvel comic" and "marvel cinematic universe". I'll clean up now.

Yes, I made this post because it is a bug that perhaps Travis might want to fix.

Marvel comic is not the same as Marvel. The correct term would be "based upon Marvel comics", which is long and superfluous. Marvel cinematic universe is a completely different search term. Not the same thing at all.

Why have the x-men tags been deleted?

All deleted now. The x-men keywords are not really needed since we have the collection already. I would suggest creating a list for the universe. (Also note that support for universes will come to collections eventually.) Travis will soon make lists a bigger part of everything (including search). That should improve things. A general philosophy for our keywords is to keep trivia to a minimum. In that way we are the opposite of IMDb, where trivia is 90 percent of the keyword experience. So most trivia should go as lists here. We also don't want too many similar keywords. That's where the marvel keyword becomes redundant. We could have 10 keyword variations with marvel, but that would not be helpful for anyone. snail

Many of these decision has already been made by other moderators. So if an obvious keyword - like X-Men - is missing in 2017, it's likely not supported or already considered covered in a different way (collection, lists, titles). There are 496 keywords listed for Logan on IMDB - including tons of spoilers. We don't want more than 20, no spoilers and as little trivia as possible.

(Edit: I should also add that we always believe there can be improvements. That's why we often leave keywords unlocked.)

If someone comes to the site, and wants to search for X-men related titles, then the fact that a collection exists is not going to help when they do a search and nothing comes up. It seems an odd state of affairs that "x-men" is not considered a relevant keyword for X-men titles. I understand wanting to reduce irrelevant and similar keywords, but having at least one X-men keyword seems reasonable.

We don't have a James Bond keyword for James Bond movies. Maybe that could be a better comparison?

If someone comes to the site, and wants to search for X-men related titles, then the fact that a collection exists is not going to help when they do a search and nothing comes up.

I just tried a search: 73 movies, 6 TV Shows, 2 collections (and in the future, all the related lists will show as well). So that's another argument as to why it's not needed. relaxed

OK, I see. I have to get used to how the search works on this site. The collection seems to be missing a lot of titles though. Unless you mean that those will be added as related collections? I'm sure that New Mutants and Gifted should be in there anyway.

You are correct, the main collection cover a few, but not all movies. They have to be sequels (so no spin-offs) with the current rules, but eventually there will be support for universes instead.

I'm sure that New Mutants and Gifted should be in there anyway.

I'm not very familiar with the chronology of those movies, but if they are proper sequels they should be fine. If spin-offs, don't add.

When I save and then try to add another keyword

I do not know if Travis plans to fix the whole thing eventually, but an automatic page refresh on save would be helpful.

it seems that the rest of the keywords get overwritten and deleted.

Ignore me if you already figured it out, but it can easily be avoided. The keywords are deleted when you click outside of the keyword box after entering new keywords and then try to go back to add more. When the blinking cursor is gone, save the keywords if you need to and refresh the page. baby_chick

Edit: That's a no for both. The X-Men collection should not be used as a X-Men universe! They are only used to regroup movie sequels.

Marvel comic is not the same as Marvel. The correct term would be "based upon Marvel comics", which is long and superfluous. Marvel cinematic universe is a completely different search term. Not the same thing at all.

Just a little note: We like consistency, so if you do, please do use "based on marvel comic", although I don't think that's necessary, there's already "based on comic" (like we also have "based on novel" "based on young adult novel" "based on short story" etc) we're not gonna create a keyword for every franchise. And if we do for marvel it would be saying like marvel is better than the rest.

Marvel is better than the rest though...

If we would use only marvel, you would have to share that keyword with any movies where the regular word marvel is a fit. Now that is not the case. owl

I already thought about that. Just use "miracle" instead. ;)

That's how it is now, true, but then you would have to tell that to all users, which is a lot of trouble when a working solution already is in place. Never mind. I guess we can close the topic now.

"Error - There Is A Problem". Trying to save new keywords, and I get this message - but what's the problem? How do I find out? Nothing wrong was noted when I entered each keyword, including "create it" keywords - shouldn't the warning come sooner than at the end, if the problem is there? What to do????
