The Movie Database サポート

I have been looking at the apps section trying to find something where I can login on my phone to my account and rate things. Am I really just overlooking it? If not, this should be on the mainpage somewhere.

So this tells me I was an idiot for transferring my info to tmdb, and tmdb isn't about creating a community of movie & TV enthusiasts, it's just about creating a database.

I guess it depends on what you mean by "community." Personally, I use TMDb mainly for the forums, not the data. (I still prefer IMDb for data because it seems much richer and more complete than TMDb at present.) But I consider myself part of the "forum community" and I like to engage in discussions w/others, having moved over here after IMDb closed down their forums in early 2017. I also have some acquaintances here who seem to share some of the same movie and TV interests, and I occasionally bump into them in any given forum. So that makes me feel like part of a community.

And there are specific genres like film noir in which I get involved in discussions of individual films in the genre. Those often have a sort of community feel to them. Occasionally I also get involved in discussions in the forum for a specific TV series such as the 1950s series Adventures of Superman. The shared interest in that, especially among fellow Baby Boomers, gives me some sense of community.

I also don't use TMDb on a mobile phone. I prefer using a web browser on a PC with a full-size keyboard and screen. Being retired, I don't really need to do much outside the home, so I just use a PC. I carry a mobile phone mostly for convenience when out of the home, and use it for text and talk. I don't even have a data plan on the phone, but use the home PC for Internet/Web browsing.

Hi @Charlez7, I think what @King_Dave said is close to how we look at it as well. There's two main groups of users on TMDB; people who like to help build the database, and then those who use it as more of a discovery and exploration tool.

For what it's worth, we do have plans to start working on a mobile app but currently do not plan on bringing any of the editing capabilities to it. It's currently planned to be a pure discovery experience. The thing about editing and contributing is that it's the kind of work really tailored to a bigger screen where you can be managing multiple tabs and applications to ensure the highest quality contributions. That type of work just doesn't lend itself to a phone. For our product, I think there will always be the need for the main three: desktop, web mobile and native mobile.

I hope no one took my comments to mean there shouldn't be desktop.

My comment is directed to the lack of mobile usability either as app or web mobile — the mobile website is great in certain ways but falls down hard in far to many ways for it to be a goto on mobile, currently that is.

And this is coming from someone that prefers to use the browser over apps as much as possible, but a browser doesn't cache data for offline use which is a big plus for movies/TV stuff.

But more importantly, it's why aren't developers choosing to sync to TMDb instead they flock to trakt? I just had this discussion with someone developing a new app — I asked why they pull from TMDb but only sync to trakt. Their answerer, simply put, users want trakt not TMDb. And that tells me, as stated here, TMDb is a database but not a "viewer" community, do to the lack of focus on usability, import or sync from other platforms, etc, that give a good user experience for that type of community, I don't know 🤷‍♂️ — sure, it's great for other types of communities as pointed out.

I, however, find that sad because TMDb is THE SOURCE of the information all these apps are using and IMO it should be the go to place to sync and build apps for 🤷‍♂️

But that just isn't reality. Reality is, trakt is the go to place for apps that sync and tracking.

Finally, I'm going to disagree with this idea that, desktop is the only way for certain things. No, it's all about designing intelligently. It's just formatting 99% of the time. Developers choose to gimp mobile web apps and often native mobile apps, not because of some hardware limitation but because they do poor design. Usually if you can do it in a browser on desktop you can do it on a phone or tablet, if designed properly. That's why I left windows behind several years ago — people are just comfortable with their desktop environments and don't force themselves to make it work and work well on mobile devices... IMHO 😉

Constellations: What were the actors in this movie doing before and after?

I made this in 2021 and just started using TMDb for movie posters, actor pix, and bios. Thank you for providing this excellent data! So much better than the alternative sources. Will update soon to 2023 data.

I too have been unable to find an App and After IMDb started taking down positive and negative reviews based on political whims, I'm walking away from the site faster than I did Rotten Tomatoes. I would love an app for TMDB just to help further separate myself from IMDb
