I wish to make a website using API.
Can someone tell me how to use API? Like can I use it to replace search and Titles in a website.. Kinda like here.
Can't find a movie or TV show? Login to create it.
Want to rate or add this item to a list?
Not a member?

Hi Steph,
There's not going to be a lot of detailed information I can give you if you aren't super familiar with programming with web services. Do you have any experience with that? We have a list of wrappers and libraries located here, that can be helpful if you have a preferred language to write in.
With regards to searching and replacing text on a website, that's going to be a combination of (I would imagine, I've never done it) JavaScript and some browser specific extension code. I've never seen anyone do exactly this though, so I'm not 100% sure.

... You guys are pretty much pushing backward.. You got one of the World best Movie Collection MADE by.. OTHER PEOPLE.
But when other people wanna try make use of the list WE made ... to create a site like this -> https://letterboxd.com/
I know how PHP & MySQL Databases work. It's basicly the same here.
Can't you even help me create a website that uses atleast the posters of this Database? __ What am I suppose to write in code? How come you so disloyal to the people that helped you created this service.. for themselves at the start?!
Love, Stephanie!
Edit: https://letterboxd.com/< - This looks really easy. It's just some small design . Some text.. then you pull 6 newest movie posters into next row.. after that some icons + text in a 3 column.
..the "just reviewed" - + pull in 12 poster that was reviewed.." ..
IFyou have ONE ounce of knowledge of what code to use.. Im sure its a cake-walk to figure out the rest.
its not even responsive design

Hi Stephanie,
Let me help by just clarifying a few things for you...
I run this entire project by myself. I've written every single line of code for both the website and API. This has been my full time job since 2010. Yes, we ask everyone to build this database together, but in exchange for that we offer the API service for free. We are one of the last "major" databases left that offers anything for free. The alternatives probably won't even start talking for less than ~$65,000/year.
I mention all of this because as a one man shop, I do not have time to help users write code, or give tutorials on things. Our service is "a la carte". As the saying goes, you get what you pay for.
Our service has been used by over 110,000 developers to create awesome projects like Letterboxd, Plex and thousands and thosands more. This is what we give back by asking our users to help build our database together. It costs hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to do this so I do take a little offence when someone says we're not giving back.
Take a look at this library. It has great documentation and examples of how to get started writing some code with PHP to query the API.
I hope that all makes sense! Thanks!

No it doesn't AT ALL.
It just you saying IM THE CEO. IM important. I don't have any time. SO go away..
Why should I go away? Why should I (who has PHD in Computer Science) - that knows mysql, php, javascript, coding, web design etc get to know how your API works?
I udnerstand if you're the CEO you not be able to have time to help or.. don't just want to.
But someone else? Can you tip of someone else that have atleast 30min to have a chat - you know - a normal damn personal conversation?
That is what seperate us from robots you know. Social.. Living.. Sharing Beings.
So I ask you or other people here if they could tip of some tutorial how to use the API.. or give me 20min or their life. t Ty for reply , tmdb CEO.
Love, Stephanie!
Edit: idk if this works.. but this is atleast a tutorial that could bring some info... Tip for you other poor souls that try to learn how to use tmdb's api..
Tutorial: http://tutorialzine.com/2010/08/simple-movie-search-app-jquery-ajax/ Edit2: damnit didnt work :/

Hi mr CEO.
I read the site you send me.
I got a small question. Do i need github to make the PHP Wrapper work.. Or can I download the files as normal (zip) ?
Edit: I wasn't bashing at you personally Travis.. I just feel abit sad that I gone a computer education for 3 years in University and still had no idea how to use an API.
Edit2: I have currently installed github on my Windows .
I have not installed anything else.
I look at the tutorial i was given - https://github.com/php-tmdb/api
It says >
Installation
Install Composer
$ curl -sS https://getcomposer.org/installer | php $ sudo mv composer.phar /usr/local/bin/composer
...
Does that mean I don't need anything else then github installed to begin with this tutorial? or do I need to install some plug-in before?

You should be able to just download the files. They can be included as any other library. I don't write or know PHP though, so I won't be much help there.

Sorry to butt in but I felt the language and words are uncalled for. As @travisbell mentioned, he's the only one maintaining this site and also take note that he's doing it out of his free time. Please understand that he's trying his level best to accomodate other user's queries as well.
Hopefully others user able to guide you further.

This message was in no shape or form directed towards Travis at all.
This was a message directed to the probably thousands of coders out there that
