There has never been a decision or rule here to put OVAs in Specials (I know it's done that way on another db site...). In fact, we don't want them there in most cases. Except for some of the new OADs that come out as bonus eps with DVD/Blu-ray releases of the TV series, an OVA is either a sequel, a standalone special, a spin-off, or something of that nature. They aren't specials. On this site, what matters is if it's an episodic series or not. In this case, the 8-episode OVA is an episodic sequel series, regardless of whether it aired on TV or not. So it will either go in season 2 of Strike the Blood, or as a new series called Strike the Blood II. Take your pick and please put the episode information in one of those places. When you're done let me know and I'll delete the excess listings. Thanks! :)

By the way, sorry for the delay on this stuff. I have a wrist injury.

I haven't watched any of Strike the Blood, it was just a change I saw on someone's feed. While it is an episodic continuation, setting that as an OK to add them as a new season is problematic and another case for TMDBs poor guidelines to follow.

So OVAs for shows should not necessarily be included to the specials except for when they're included on the disc releases.

I brought up issues previously but never got a satisfying answer (even at the first preview of the TVDB),... maybe someone can be bothered to write up proper guidelines for the wiki. There is a reason why the other db is doing that. You have 0 rules for handling split cours but still follow some ideas of the other DB for shows like Naruto, etc. which are still split and not just single season absolute numbers... This is really helping no one.

Just a few instances of no clear policies...

I agree with you on pretty much every point. There is a stunning lack of consistency that vastly hampers the usefulness of the database. This is mainly because the vast majority of staff (and many of the users) here know nothing about anime and therefore the records here are done 500 different ways. I am one person and have tried my very, very best to make things vaguely accurate in the face of data that is, for the most part, organized completely incorrectly. The amount of data that needs to be changed, all by hand, is stunningly overwhelming, and I've not even got permission to do it. Therefore I have resigned. Because I, too, am done ripping my hair out over it.

I know why "that other db" puts OVAs in specials. It works (poorly) as a workaround for scraping data for media software. On the other hand, it's terribly inaccurate in terms of a database of information. I, too, would not personally put these OVAs as season 2, either. If it were up to me, every new release, with a new freaking name, would be a new record, just like it is on every anime site. To quote you, there's a reason they do it that way, too -- because it's correct. And thus these OVAs would be a new record, televised or not (unfortunately there are only two kinds of records here, movies and TV shows, so we have to work with what we've got; TV shows = multi-part).

There are a million gray area situations in anime, especially with single-episode OVAs/OADs, which are bound to be handled inconsistently in ANY database (and they are, I can point out many in the leading anime dbs), but in those dbs they are small items and they are the exceptions. Here, it's a free-for-all. I've talked 'til I'm blue in the face with other staff about some of the problems (as you said, zero rules that actually apply to these types of works), I've spent gazillions of hours fixing and entering data trying to improve it, and I've gotten nowhere. So that's why I'm leaving and giving up hope of ever finding a mainstream database that can be vaguely reflective of reality when it comes to anime. If I was a programmer I'd start my own. :( Good luck in the future.
