What is the exactly the resolution for posters ?
When i upload a poster, you said that "preferred resolution of 1000x1500". But with this resolution the posters are really really skinny. On some posters it looks very bad.
For me It is not the good resolution for real DVD or BLURAY.
Normally the real size for DVD and BLURAY should be like this :
DVD (even if it's a thin dvd) : 129,5 mm x 183 mm if we up to 1000 pixels -> 1000x1414 pixels BLURAY : 129 mm x 149,5 mm if we up to 1000 pixels 1000 x 1150 pixels.
I took this resolution from a real DVD and BLURAY format.
Or maybe i made a mistake myself. You mean perhaps for real poster like in cinema and not dvd or bluray poster.
Just tell me before i upload my other bluray poster.
Sorry for my poor english, i'm french :)
Thanks a lot

there's some margin! I always upload the original size, and if that doesn't work, I resize it to 1:1,5 :)

If no other poster exists such covers can be added, yes. However, if good posters already exists a lower quality DVD or Blu-Ray cover may be deleted. If quality is good enough, I let anything at or above 1:1.33 stay. And always remember to crop if you are going to change the aspect ratio. If not, your image will be distorted.

Ok thanks for your answer.
Yes there is some margin but i took the real resolution from the paper and not from the plastic DVD or BLURAY.
So i can upload a 1000x1414 pixels DVD resolution and 1000 x 1150 pixels for BLURAY, thats ok for you ?

1000x1414 is OK, but if a good poster already exists, I wouldn't go through the trouble since your poster could be deleted anyhow (depending on the quality). 1000x1150 is way below 1:1.33 so that will always be deleted for being too square.

Ok no problem with the bluray resolution. I'll do the same resolution as the DVD.
What you mean by quality ? All my posters are true from DVD, BLURAY and BLURAY 3D cartoons for the most of them.
Can you tell me what is good quality for you ?
Thanks

That one for example but with your prefered resolution 1000x1500, it should look more better i think with another resolution. I mean for this two with this resolution it looks not pretty good for me.

Hi, both images are distorted. That's what happened when you change the aspect ratio without first cropping the image. In the image program it's usually a setting about keeping the aspect ratio when you re-size an image. Otherwise the quality was good. But, with that said, for both those movies there were several good posters added already and in those cases we usually delete obvious DVD or Blu-Ray covers. In this case though, your images were deleted for being distorted.

Hi lineker,
Of course I understand, I used the favorite size and that is why the images are distorted.
I'll come back all the images that I downloaded with the preferred size and I'll let to delete after I download those with the right size.
Those movies where there were several good posters added are good aswell i agree but not the real french DVD or BLURAY.
If there is a good DVD or BLURAY poster, of course I do not download another for failing twice the same posters.

rico76; you have to make them a different size indeed, but not by just literally resizing it, but by cutting part of the side(s) of iimages from the image. Also called cropping.
If you don't understand it, you could read through this: http://mcpactions.com/2011/05/09/understanding-cropping-vs-resizing-in-photography/
Sometimes you do need to resize an image, but always use the same aspect ratio, and then crop is to 16:9 / 4:3

Marr, I thank you but I know how to crop an image. I think you misunderstood me at the end. It's not really serious.
What I wanted to say is that following the recommended size 1000X1500 actually for DVD or BLURAY images are distorted with this size.
If I cut part of the side(s) of images, i miss a bit af the DVD images.
I just understand that it is not necessary to follow exactly the recommended size. Hence my question about the different file sizes.
For me the preferred size is not recommended for DVD or BLURAY.

And I think you made an argument as to why those are not the best sources for images added to the site. It takes a lot of extra work to get there. And we may still delete the image if there are other good options already added. For movies without an image they can be the best option though.
If you don't do any extra work with the image and choose to re-size without cropping, then yes your images will be very bad. But if you take a look around you will see that most movies somehow get good images at or above the recommended size with the recommend aspect ratio. We are always happy for any help we can get, but make sure the help is actually needed first. Which is why it's good you started a discussion about it.
