I saw that there are several extended editions for Lord of the Ring:

https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/380632 https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/378276 https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/380976

I also found another extended edition:

https://www.themoviedb.org/translate/movie/316759

The data quality of all these entries is very poor.

And I don't see any good reason to allow extended editions in the first place.

IMDB seems to not have such editions.

Maybe you can delete all of this movies? Or it's allowed to add extended editions?

Extended, special or any other kind of directors edition are not allowed. They are deleted as they are found.

I have plans to properly support these in the future but until then we remove them.

Thank you for your answer. I will report all extended versions which I find :)

Hi ThisIsNotHollywood, just make sure there is another version in the database before you report it. The World Wars - which is a mini-series and thus allowed in the movie section - did not have a movie entry after the extended edition was deleted. So it should be added again. If you come across such an entry again, just delete the extended edition data and transform the entry into a good entry.

I don't understand why extended editions (or director cuts, etc) are not allowed. They are very clearly different movies. It seems improper to group them under something like "Alternative Version" because the movie can be profoundly different in one version or another with vastly different traits and especially user reviews. Is there another thread that explains the rationale behind the decision? I'd be curious to see what I'm overlooking.

Also, that being said, I'll self-report. I was not aware of the "no alternative versions" rule. https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/498318-the-lord-of-the-rings-the-fellowship-of-the-ring-special-extended-edition

Oops also: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/499958-the-lion-king-special-edition

I think the key word is that Travis plans to PROPERLY support alternative versions. I don't know what that entails exactly, but I wouldn't be too quick to assume it won't meet your needs. duck

I remove them! Thank you!!! smiley_cat

Once they are properly supported they will be able to share many of their common assets like cast & crew, images, etc.. They'll be able to diverge from the original with whatever data is different. But it doesn't make sense until all of that is properly supported to allow them in the database since in most cases all that is different is a title, poster and a runtime and if we allowed all of those in the db would be full of thousands of duplicate items with no way to filter them out.

Proper support is coming, no worries wink

Hello, do you have an update on this? Is there a proper way to add extended editions now?

Thanks in advance!

It's on the To-Do list.

Just did 😉

Are TV recuts allowed ? I noticed "The Godfather Saga" and thought about adding "Pierre ou les Ambiguïtés", the TV version of Carax's "Pola X" commissioned by ARTE.

Not yet.
Only when the multiple versions feature is implemented.

I have a suggestion that is kinda related to this. Whenever I see a movie: say......Die Hard. In the casting pictures....there is a picture of Bruce Willis, but as he looks today. Sometimes, the actors and actresses look entirely different in their movie roles. Is there any way to add pics to what they looked like directly underneath their current pics?

To go even further........what if said actors have an Animated movie Disney's Aladdin. Robin Williams main pic can be of what he looks like currently, but his character voice, should also show he played the Genie, so as to show people what character he voice or voiced multiple times in some cases. I would be happy to help in this area if needs be. Thank you for listening and hope this is in the right area to ask.

I can't wait to see these implemented, but can I ask to add something since images and specific info was mentioned? When we view a movie (example: Star Wars: A New Hope). We see all the actors listed in the movie with their respective pictures. The problem I have with it somewhat....is that the pictures of said actors are of what they look like today. Is there any way to have the picture of the actors character, instead of the default "recent" version or have both in there. Even in the case of say, Mark Hamill voicing the Joker in the Batman: animated series, have the picture of The Joker (the way Joker looks in that particular series) and also have a pic of mark Hamill (default pic) / but in the case of say A New Hope, have his character pic (the way he actually looked like in the movie) and maybe the most recent pic (secondary)?

I ask that, because many actors look way different after decades go by and not everyone can spot who they are without it. Just a thought. Thanks for listening and if there is anything i can do, i will gladly do, but not sure how.
