The Movie Database Support

hi, When there's no translation available would it be possible to read the english text" by default" ?

  • the source (if it's not an original TMDB text)
  • of course,, the usual banner "We don't currently have an overview translated to Français. Help expand our database by adding one!"

thanks

Hi additup,

This is indeed something we can consider. It's a tricky balance of teasing the lack of data to encourage contributions and defaulting to another language if we have it. With no data, people add a lot more missing information. With more default text, people tend to just leave it be and not add as much.

I have created a new ticket to think about this here. Thanks!

I understand your dilemma. True, that's sometimes, a defautl text could be counterproductive.

2 cases :

  • the original text is a quote or copy from an official source. If the source is duly mentioned, participate is only a simple translation job. (knowing that after the translation we can add details or other sources)

  • "no" source means no default text. Everyone feels free to create or quote.

Nota : When a TMdb member creates its own text, he has to sign it, in order to become "defautt text" for translation.

This has been implemented by the way, you can read more about it here if you'd like.
