Trying to add cast/crew in numerous shows is proving difficult to say the least - is there a known problem with data entry. Attempted to add several crew members to Blue Bloods, but after inputting the data, the website hangs and doesn't accept the information. I have notice this on several occasions, with different shows. I am using Google Chrome, but have tried with both IE and FireFox, with the same issue.

Anybody in the know care to assist with issues I have adding or editing data. I am trying to help, but the issues surrounding data input are frustrating and rather than being encouraged to continue contributing to the site, these issues are having the opposite effect. Perhaps if someone could have a look at my 'Changes' screen in profile, there may be something there which could give feedback on what is happening.
I just tried tidying up 'Friends' and had added Gunther as a Season Regular - which given his erratic appearances, he certainly wasn't. I went ahead and deleted him from Season Regular and rather than add both Person and Character individually, to each episode, I decided to add the person's name and then take advantage of the automatic completion and add the Character name to the first entry, but everything just freezes, when attempting to add the Character name in this fashion, leaving a person with blamk character which cannot be corrected.
I'm sorry to continually keep on about this, but I wonder how many others are put-off assisting, because of these niggly issues - or is it just me?

Hi steelman1991,
There's an outstanding issue to properly report an error when trying to add a TV credit that has been detected as a duplicate. The ticket for that is here. The long and short of this issue is that if you head in and try to edit a credit to another credit that already exists it probably won't work. This would explain why James Michael Tyler exists as both Gunther and no character on his profile page.
I'm busy with a lot of other stuff at the moment and won't likely find time to get to any of this for a while. In the meantime, I've never had trouble deleting the credit and then when re-adding it, making sure to enter the character name exactly as it is entered everywhere else. This will attach it to the same credit as every other credit as that's how the credit lookup happens in the background. I just did that to this episode and it worked properly. You can see the change log here.

Hi Travis
Thanks for having another look - I don't know if I'm following the logic, but it may just be that I'm slow, but I'm not sure I'm doing anything different from what you describe. I am cautious, almost to the level of 'anal retentive' lol and ensure spelling and accuracy prior to changing anything. Are you saying that for the automatic recognition and completion, all 'character' entries have to be blank? Sorry if I'm totally picking this up wrongly.

No worries man.
Nope, not quite. Here's a video of what I mean. I think it describes what I am talking about better than words can. I see James Michael Tyler was all fixed up so I used this one guest star as an example. You'll see that my first attempt to only edit the character name failed (because of the bug I mentioned above) but my subsequent delete and re-add (with the character name) worked and linked the existing credit properly.

Hi Travis
Sorry for delay in replying.
Yes I can enter details in the manner you describe, by deleting and re-entering. What I was trying - and failing miserably - to describe was where a character appears in lets say 20 episodes of a series, what I found when starting initially to add detail, was that if you entered only the persons name - in the 20 episodes, but left the Character name blank - you could go back to the first record you had added and add the Character name - only in the first episode and the system would automatically add the missing Character Name to the other 19 records, without further input/prompt from me. Clearly there was some logic in the back-end which recognised empty records against persons in specific seasons and once one entry had been amended for that actor all other episodes were amended with the new information.
This sounds really complex , but it's really not- perhaps it's just me making it so. Hope this makes it clearer.
