Yes, this is a known issue. It's not yet possible to create a new profile from the TV-section.
A workaround for this would be to add Matthew Pitts as a writer or director or any crew position to a different movie. Then delete him from that movie. The profile will remain in the database and you can then add him as a writer for this episode.

The open ticket for this feature is here. I'll be spending some time back on the website this week and am hoping to find time to get this completed.
