Actually, as of yesterday this might have been fixed. As I've said a few times this was mostly out of my hands. I wasn't going to mention anything until I let some tests sit for a while. My test (Bambi) is holding up so far.
However, when you say you've "been trying to add genres repeatedly" the only issue that was left was the genres disappearing/overwriting/appearing issue which is the one I am referring to. There is no known issue with the system to actually add them.
Thanks Travis - I didn't see that this was out of your hands, just that you were hoping to have it fixed within a few weeks of 20th December - I thought it might have been forgotten about. I've been trying to add genres (such that they would stick) repeatedly because they've been disappearing repeatedly!
Great news about the possible fix; I'll add my genres again and see if they stick too. Fingers crossed! :)
Ok guys, so yesterdays maintenance let us do a lot of things (especially moving forward) but one of them was…. drum roll EDITING GENRES. Edits should now stick.
Once I have without a single doubt, double and triple checked then checked it a fourth time confirmed this I'll be spending some around genres (like removing foreign) and allowing them to be sortable. Until then, can you guys give a couple movies a try for me?
Excellent, thank you!! I've added my genres from the first page back in today. Except that it seems that it's no longer possible to use the Musical genre, which seems like a bit of a backward step? (Also Road Movie, though I don't think that one's such a great loss.) Thumbs up for working on removing Foreign, btw!
What would be good, is run a script against movies that have no genres but have a history of genres added and fill the blanks. At least peoples time would of not gone to waste that have added them in the past but are no longer there.
But at least it sticks now so that is a forward step.

Any news on this at all? I've been trying to add the genres repeatedly, for months now.

Dammit! But thanks. Hope it's not too difficult to fix from here.

Hi Travis,
Is there any work arounds until a fix is in place so that genres persist? Has the root cause been identified yet?

I'll check back on those genres in a week or two.

So far so good. No lost genres on several movie edits since your change.

Yep, that seems to have done the trick. Thanks Travis!
