This dreamlike, hypnotic work is structured in four sections, each of which repeats, in various permutations, key visual and verbal systems. Part One introduces the main theme — a poetic text, music, and a set of images that relate to language play in the text. The sections Key/Code, Translations and Adagio systematically translate and abstract these elements, as in a theme and variations. Images and spoken text are subtly interwoven in an insistent rhythm of sonic and visual codes, a language of "telling motions" and gestures: A gyroscope turns in a shaft of light, hands twist in slow motion, a figure signals with flags on a train track. Seaman writes that he "explores repetition and change based on context and treatment, (and) the relative nature of time."

A collage film slipping between narrative starts of images and sounds

Through the Motions is an intimate, immersive sound and video installation exploring human engagement with Earth and nature. The film draws parallels between how we as humans harvest natural resources and exploit or trample them, with what we consider pragmatic and efficient.

'Motion Pictures for Wall Frames: Vol 1' is the first in a series of experimental films by filmmaker Lee Eubanks. The series is focused on infusing environments of motion and time inherent in cinema with traditional visual art themes. 'Volume 1' involves six scenes which each showcase a different genre of photography or painting interpreted through cinematic movement and duration. Each scene is comprised of a single stationary shot reaching the 30-second maximum shot length of the hand-wound Krasnogorsk-3 camera. While 'Motion Pictures for Wall Frames' can be screened through traditional cinematic formats, the project is designed to be shown framed on a wall, either through projection or digital picture screen, much like a framed photograph or canvas. This concept originated from Eubanks' desire to see works of cinema showcased similarly to how pictures and paintings are commonly displayed across the world.

Motion Vision was originally screened in alternation with slides as part of the rotating installation Rotor Vision, in Rome in 1967 for the seminal group show at L’Attico entitled Fuoco, Immagine, Acqua, Terra with the participation of Mario Bignardi, Mario Ceroli, Piero Gilardi, Jannis Kounellis, Pino Pascali and Michelangelo Pistoletto. In Motion Vision Bignardi constructs a curious repertoire of animal profiles drawn in colour on paper, alternated with pop icons and a sequence of everyday gestures: from the tying of neckties the film passes to walking nude figures in slow motion, alluding to Muybridge and his chronophotography. —Tate Modern
