Performing at the 21st day of this year’s iTunes Festival in London yesterday (Sept. 21), Ryan Adams powered through a bit of illness as he and the Shining played 18 songs to a packed audience.

“This amazing thing happened right before I did this, I lost my f—ing voice,” Adams told the crowd. “I’m not kidding. I’m shot up with so much cortisone I feel like the Hulk.” Even when he’s not feeling the greatest, the singer-songwriter’s unique sense of humor remains perfectly intact.

Opening with the lead single from his eponymous album, ‘Gimme Something Good,’ the concert featured tunes from throughout Adams’ career, including both solo and Cardinals material. For those lucky fans in attendance — and the thousands who were watching at home via iTunes — Adams did an amazing job of putting new spins on familiar tunes; this was evident in the opening of ‘Fix It’ and ‘Let It Ride,’ both of which never lost their original appeal, but featured subtly different arrangements.

Ryan Adams and Laura Marling have come together for a recent recording of Channel 4′s Live From Abbey Road, to perform a version of Adam’s song Oh My Sweet Carolina. He cites Marling’s second album I Speak Because I Can as a major influence behind his latest album, Ashes & Fire.

The final concert in this series of the songwriters' show sees Kiwi favourite Neil Finn joined on stage by American legend Janis Ian and alt-country poster boy Ryan Adams. Ryan Adams crouches over his distinctive striped guitar and delivers a series of exquisitely mournful songs, from debut solo album Heartbreaker's Oh My Sweet Carolina (helped by gorgeous harmonies from his compadres) to Invisible Riverside from his album Ashes and Fire.

Ryan Adams and the Shining took to the Park Stage in patchy denim to perform in front of arcade cabinets and a crowd of thousands.

Douglas Adams was the best-selling British author and satirist who created The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. In this talk at UCSB recorded shortly before his death, Adams shares hilarious accounts of some of the apparently absurd lifestyles of the world's creatures, and gleans from them extraordinary perceptions about the future of humanity.

The Fall of Adam is an urban regeneration of Adam's fall from grace. Taking the story to new hi-rise heights and wrestling his descent down through the inferno, he finds his once beautiful eve has turned from the divine to the bovine. A bloody fight with a fat guy in stained underwear (Satan) ends Adam's fall. His body descends the endless flights to his death. He turns back to the dust in which he was created.

At the Dawn of the Space Age, there was Little Adam. The year is 1963, and we are preparing to leave the Earth for the first time. How would we get to the moon? To Mars? Could we rescue an astronaut in case of an accident in space? In each adventure, Little Adam gives us a glimpse at some of our early plans to map out a future in space, as well as a look back to how mankind first got off the ground. Some of these plans were remarkably close to the way things would later take shape; others would ultimately be reconsidered; and some still await the next generation of scientists and explorers. Each and every story was a look into a fantastic future where mankind would be facing the greatest challenges of his existence.

A text by Vito Acconci supported the process of this work. In “Vito Acconci on Activity”, he talks about adaptive lines of action:

“A performance can consist of performing (adhering to the terms of) a particular element (a rule, a space, a previous performance, another person)…..the performance can be set up as a learning process. When the performer makes a move, the consequences of his behavior can control his next move. The use of feedback can steady and bring into unison one stage of the performance, after which can come change as new material is imported and adapted to. The performer can work as a producer; the performance pattern can be linear—a series of additions of material. And energy. Or he can work as a consumer.”
