That's the way they described most of the characters he played. I never thought about it but he did seem to play the same type of character over and over again, like Paul Lynde did. I remember him in Myra Breckinridge when Myra does the big 'reveal' and he faints.

I assume he was gay because I haven't seen anything that said he was married or had kids. Not that that really means anything.
