“I went to Indiana Jones and Jaws and every movie Steven Spielberg ever made, and by the way, he’s never made a movie with a female lead. Sorry, Steven. I don’t mean to call your ass out, but it’s true.”
Meanwhile, there are several films that he's directed with female leads. The Color Purple being just one of them.
The last movie he directed that released was The BFG, which just happened to have a female lead. Sure, it was a shared lead, but a leading role none the less.
I'm all for equality but sometimes you get a good reminder as to why you'll never get equality when you dismiss the very facts you fight for.

while she is completely wrong that he has never done a movie with a female lead, in looking up SS filmography he has 30 films to his credit and 3 of those have a female lead. so 10%....but I say so what. He makes great movies. Just because a woman isn't the lead in most of them doesn't take that away. I'm a big fan of Ms. Banks as well but stepping on the soapbox here is a time waster. SS didn't write the scripts for those movies, he just directed them. And do we know if ET wasn't a female for that matter?

This is coming from the director of Pitch Perfect 2...yeah, can't take her seriously. Also, as @RCH2288 mentioned, Spielberg's films are great regardless, and in fact many of them wouldn't work without a strong female presence whether they're leads or not.
