Happy birthday! One of a very small handful of true Golden Age superstars still with us today. Once she is gone, an era will effectively be ended.

That is sad, but true.

She is the oldest living winner of The Academy Award, and the last surviving big screen legend from the 1930s Golden Age of Hollywood. It is a pity she was not included in the AFI's (American Film Institute) list of 50 Greatest American Screen Legends (although she was nominated), like Katharine Hepburn and Bette Davis.

Her portrayal of Maid Marian in "The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938)" is probably the best I've seen. She starred in 8 other movies with Errol Flynn. (They didn't appear together in "Thank Your Lucky Stars (1943)", but she still remembers him in that one.)
There must have been some kind of incredible chemistry between the two that transformed into the screen magic we can all admire in their movies.

She once said:

"On June 20th (Flynn's birthday), I will raise a glass of Champagne to Errol, as I always do."

So will I toast on her birthday: "To Dame Olivia de Havilland, the last of the great 1930s Classic Stars".

I hadn't heard that comment on Flynn, thanks for sharing.

I love their collaborations. Robin Hood is, of course, brilliant and definitive - what a cast, what colours! - but my favourite is Captain Blood.

I was rematching that wonderful movie a few weeks ago and, as always, marvelling that the leading lady of an 82 year old film is still around today - it really is quite staggering to think.

She definitely has stood the test of time!

Hoping Miss Olivia remains in good health and with a continuingly good life for some time to come!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO HER!!!
