I think I've seen more of the music videos he has directed than his movies. I've seen Panic Room, Gone Girl & his remake of Dragon Tattoo, didn't really care for any of them.

Those three are really not the best films to see for getting a feel for Fincher and experiencing why he's so well regarded. They are mostly straight thrillers with nothing to say and little reason to exist other than entertainment. With the exception of maybe Gone Girl. He brought nothing interesting to Dragon Tattoo. He just made exactly the same film as the original but with some of his trademark stylings.

It's Seven, Fight Club, The Social Network, Mank or Zodiac that you should check out, they're the films that have the depth and show his filmmaking skills. And preferably one of the first two. Fight Club is one of those rare films that manages to be about a million different things yet manages to pull it off.

Unfortunately there is an appearance by an uncredited actor in Seven whose presence, following fairly recent developments, will be most unwelcome and would probably make it uncomfortable viewing and Fight Club's big plot revelation, while revolutionary at the time, has been ripped off so much since that it won't have the same effect.

I must check out some of his music videos.

I've seen bits & pieces of Seven (had no interest in seeing the rest), the rest you mentioned, there are specific reasons for not watching each one.

Who is the uncredited actor in Seven?

Alien 3 _is much, much, much better than people give it credit for. It sure beats the crap out of _Panic Room, one of the stupidest movies I've ever had the misfortune of sitting through.

My ranking:

  • Seven (gets better with every viewing) (edit: I'm correcting the incorrect spelling of the title, it is indeed Seven but if you wanna fight about it, please do so here.
  • The Game (a comfort movie, one of those movies I watch regularly)
  • Zodiac (splendid dramatization of a sad, real episode in history. Interesting side note for me, the couple at the lake were Seventh-day Adventists)
  • The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (horrid plot, but satisfying resolution)
  • Alien 3 (go to its message board to engage that discussion)
  • The Curious Case of Benjamin Button (I don't remember much about the movie itself, I just remember a generally good feeling about it during post-viewing discussion at the time)
  • Gone Girl (not sure what I feel about this movie. I dug that she drank Leffe, one of my favourite brands of ale...otherwise, still working on where I am on this one).

Still have to see Mank. Not really interested in The Social Network.

Have you seen the original?

Not sure why the site split up your quote? This site can be so WEIRD at times!

I have not seen the original TGwtDT - is this one better than the original, or worse, in your opinion?

Yeah, the editor is a bit hard to wrangle sometimes. No worries.

The original trilogy is so much better. I gave the original an 8/10 and Fincher's version a 5/10. I gave The Girl Who Played with Fire (2009) an 8/10 & The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest (2009) a 7/10.

It's kind of a spoiler, although these days it's a spoiler in more ways than one. It's Kevin Spacey. He is the killer. They kept his name out of the credits at the time so people wouldn't know what the killer looked like.

I don't think it's bad. The first half is actually pretty damn good. But when the action starts in the second half I found the editing really bad and struggled to follow what was going on. It may be on the bottom for me but I don't think Fincher has made a bad film.

I figured that was who you were talking about but he is credited at most sites for his role as Doe & a person would have had to spend the last 27 years in a cave to not know Doe/Spacy was the killer. I've never seen the movie but I knew it was him.

You've never struck me as the sort of gal who digs MTV and VH1, brat

Back in the day when MTV actually played music videos. As for, VH1, there were a few good things about it, but it has been years since I've watched either.

Maybe, but I still feel I should try to be careful with spoilers. It's up to the sites what information they show but he's not credited in the opening credits of the film and he's not credited on this site.

Not sure what you mean by 'credited' but he is credited here:

I hear you, agreed.

and he's not credited on this site.

Actually, he is. However, this site isn't "official", it's user-edited, so anyone could have credited him, beyond the intent of the producers. In fact, the producers included John C. McGinley on their poster, (you'll have to zoom in, but it's there, right after Gwyneth Paltrow). Now, I love McGinley, but he had about as minor a part as any headliner ever had, it seems clear they were intent on keeping Spacey's presence in the film a secret.
