Discuss Henry Cavill

Henry is contractually obligated to play Superman one more time.

Do you want Superman solo or in a team (i.e., MOS 2 or JL 2) and why?

Am I understanding this correctly? The power hierarchy won’t change anymore. BA was before heroes. So before JL.

I think so. Twitter doesn't load the vid. Will watch it another time.

HC/SM fans want an SM film, not SM in another character’s film. And then a first class superhero like SM will exist in some third class villain-turned-antihero's verse? lol Is that a joke? A very bad one, I’d hope. lol I’m not the only one who thinks that’s absurd. Is the low tracking a result of that bad joke?

Not just SM. WW and BM too. That’s the “holy” trinity of DC. WTH snapped in DJ’s head or arse that he thinks BA can be above them? Somebody needs a freaking reality check ASAP.

I’ll be so disappointed in HC if he’s in BA. Allah, Buddha, Jesus, don’t let him be in that film. pray

I’d be too. They’re clearly using SM. HC must know that. On the other hand, maybe HC can’t say no, because of what’s in his contract. He was busy with MI6 and had a mustache when he had to do the cameo for Shazam. He’s not doing anything now.

Everybody knows that DJ and DG have Deadline on their beck and call. They planted that rumor to generate buzz.

I won’t be shocked if those two are paying outlets/YT’ers/Bloggers to keep saying stuff like… “I’m 95% sure SM is in BA”… or… “our trusted and proven sources say SM is in BA.”

What a shock. It’s funny how they announced the colab with Zoa and GSTQ, as if that’s something they really had to fight for. They’re BA’s producers and WBD is relying on DJ to promote BA to his 339 mil (mostly) sleeping IG followers. He can do any colab with himself. laughing

I’ll just add that HC/SM fans have been asking for MOS2 for almost a decade. We got a headless SM cameo in Shazam… then… a shadow SM in TSS. No MOS2… but a whole new BM film.

Once upon a time, many wanted SM in the BA film. Not anymore. Keep headless and shadow SM.

Long before the world of heroes and villans, #BlackAdam ruled it all.

So yeah, before BM, SM, WW and SS (HQ).

It’ll be interesting to see how many butts the biggest draw in the world will put in seats. I think BA will open #1, tho. It’s the first superhero film since Thor4 and the first big action film since Bullet Train.

Trades and outlets are copying each other’s claim that BA is tracking for a $65-$70 mil (Deadline)/$70-$75 mil (THR) OW. The Wrap is using the same numbers as THR. However, it adds that a rep for Warner Bros., which has yet to release its own projections for “Black Adam,” had no comment for this story. Weird?… Sus?… Another planted story to create buzz?

So… "the biggest draw in the world" will give WBD*cks a… "record-breaking* $70 mil OW in 2022. WBD*cks must be in seventh heaven. champagne_glass

Most of DC’s films didn’t have a household name and they managed a bigger OW years ago. They managed a bigger OW without using another hero’s name and/or plant fake info. joy

Bringing SM in BA and BatFleck in AM2 means WBD will restore the Snyder-verse. Hello!!! JW’s Steppenwolf scene in the BA trailer isn’t replaced with a ZSJL scene. ZS’ influence ends with BvS. To WBD, ZSJL doesn’t exist.

It’s sad to see them get excited and disappointed over and over. But now is their chance to show WBD*cks. BA was never part of ZS’ JL trilogy.

MyTimeToShineHello: Yes Henry Cavill is back he has the classic suit with the Williams score and he says, "We need to talk Black Adam."

The classic suit is HC’s MOS suit, but it’ll have brighter colors.

“We’ve established Black Adam as the most powerful and unstoppable force on our planet. But the fans have been so passionate about, as we have been, where is the most unstoppable force in the universe?”
“We’ve all been fighting for this moment, so I will say this: welcome home”

DJ: "This serves not only Black Adam, but it serves the larger DC Universe. But man, more importantly than that, it takes care of the fans, and that’s what you want your lead foot to be. And yes, phone calls and meetings, but man, it was years...this was six years to get that done. I’m gonna say that again - six years, we first started talking about this, and they kept saying no. Now that leadership isn’t there anymore, because we usher in a new era in the DC Universe, and we usher out an old era."

Who are these people trying to fool? Fans said that WBD are using SM to give BA’s BO and the value of the DC IP as a whole a boost, so now they want the fans to know that the old WB regime is the one that kept SM from returning.

Firstly, the old WB regime wanted to get rid of the Snyder-verse. MOS was ZS’ first DC(EU) film and it was directed by him too. The tragedy that happened in ZS’ life was the perfect opportunity to bring in JW to completely change JL. I don’t like what ZS did with SM, but that was a c*nt move from WB. I like the WBD*ck name, but they’re worse than d*cks. They’re a bunch of soulless c*nts. And WBD is as bad as WB.

Secondly, the old WB c*nts don’t seem to be the only ones that wants to erase the Snyder-verse. The new WB regime wants to do that too. If rumors are true, BA won’t use MOS’ score or keep the colors of SM’s MOS suit. Why should the new regime care which JL the old c*nts considered canon?

Thirdly, SM isn’t back till he gets his own film. If the new WB regime is really bringing him back, officially announce MOS2. They won’t or can’t or won’t be taken seriously bc WB is going to be sold in a few months. Again, a new regime. Nobody knows what the future regime will do. What everybody should know is that the current regime is desperately using SM bc the biggest draw in the world isn’t the draw he thinks he is.

David Zaslav Tells Warner Bros. Discovery Staffers: ‘We Are Not for Sale’

The chairman-CEO of the newly merged entity made his remarks at a company-wide town hall meeting that was beamed out via Zoom to WB Discovery’s 40,000 employees worldwide. Zaslav’s comments came in response to a question from an employee.

“We are not for sale,” Zaslav told employees during the 75-minute session, a source confirmed. “We have everything we need to be successful.”

Zaslav spoke from Warner Bros.’ lot in Burbank. He was joined live by Warner Bros. Pictures’ newly appointed film team of Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, Warner Bros. TV Group chairman Channing Dungey and HBO/HBO Max content chief Casey Bloys.

Zaslav discussed the company’s desire to see its annual film output restored to 15 to 20 releases a year, across all genres. He also pointed to the importance of the company’s linear cable networks as an engine of revenue and promotion for HBO/HBO Max and Warner Bros. Pictures.

The event marked the first town hall that Zaslav has held since soon after the Warner Bros. Discovery deal was finalized in April. He acknowledged the turmoil caused by the merger and the corporate restructuring and layoffs. He told staffers the company is moving “as fast as we can” to finalize hierarchies and staffing levels to get to the other side of the integration process.

THR

DC at a Turning Point: James Gunn Pitches Secret Movie, Dwayne Johnson Flexes His Superman Power (Exclusive)

Johnson is publicly touting his vision for a future Black Adam versus Superman movie, with his words stoking fan desires to see Henry Cavill return as the red-caped hero. Matt Reeves is plotting an expansion of his The Batman universe, while J.J. Abrams remains in the mix as well with his own plans.

And The Hollywood Reporter can exclusively report that James Gunn, the filmmaker behind Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy movies as well as Warners’ DC-based The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker, is angling for his own new DC project (or two).

Sources tell THR that Gunn and producer Peter Safran are in talks with Warners for a mystery movie, possibly more, that Gunn would tackle. (Safran is already in the DC business, being a producer on Shazam! and its upcoming sequel, as well as Aquaman and that movie’s sequel.)

While it isn’t clear what hero or teams Gunn is targeting, and the writer-director would focus on a second season of Peacemaker first, the studio’s eyes are very much on Superman. Under Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav and Warner Bros. Pictures heads Michael De Luca and Pam Abdy, Warners has an intense desire to reprise the Cavill iteration of the hero. The project that would essentially be Man of Steel 2 is being produced by Charles Roven and is currently in a search for writers. (There is a wishlist, of course. And Christopher McQuarrie, the hand that guides the Mission: Impossible movies was on it. McQuarrie worked with Cavill on the 2018 installment, Fallout, but sources say no official outreach has been made nor may it be feasible, as the director is working on the next back-to-back Impossible installments.)

Johnson, however, has Superman plans of his own, and has been very vocal about his desire to make a Black Adam versus Superman movie, a desire he has only reiterated more frequently in the lead up to Adam. This comes as he talks up his “surprise” cameo at the end of Adam, with the actor all but stating that Cavill will appear. Insiders are wondering if those calls are intended to goose the movie’s opening weekend box office numbers or to maneuver Superman onto his own chess square, or perhaps both.

Whatever the case, Johnson is definitely at the center of Cavill’s return to DC, which was not without some drama of its own.

Superman, as well as Cavill, were not in the initial plans for Black Adam. The idea was hatched during a round of reshoots for the movie earlier this year, but the cameo was nixed by Hamada, the executive who for the last four years had tried hard to move DC beyond the era where one filmmaker, in this case Zack Snyder, had an inordinate amount of influence and could command an entire slate for years.

After Hamada said no, Johnson went around the executive, turning to De Luca and Abdy, who gave it the thumbs up. A furious round of negotiating occurred before Labor Day, a deadline insisted by Warners, with the scene shot in mid-September.

Meanwhile, in Gotham City, filmmaker Reeves is quietly making his own expansion plans. […] Already, a series spinoff focusing on Colin Farrell’s Penguin is on its way to filming next year. But Reeves is plotting more. The filmmaker is meeting with writers and directors to build out movies — yes movies, not just series — focused on Batman rogue’s gallery, both established and more obscure, with characters ranging from the Scarecrow to Clayface to Professor Pyg. All those projects are in the very early stages of gestation.

It is unclear where the Superman moves leave Abrams, who is still on track to produce Coates’ movie centered on the last son of Krypton. That feature would exist outside any larger DC movie continuity, much like Todd Phillips Joker movies. The mega-producer had a few setbacks when some of his DC shows  — based in the supernatural corners of DC and featuring characters such as Constantine and Zatanna  — were scrapped at WBD’s HBO Max streaming service. They are now being shopped to other streamers. But he is not out of the game and is yet another Hollywood power in the mix vying for a piece of the DC pie.

All of this takes place as Hamada, who did not attend the Adam premiere in New York Oct. 12, packs away the final personal effects from his Burbank studio lot office ahead of his last day some time this week. The executive is not even taking a producing deal with the studio, a move that is traditional amongst execs who are being let go but given a soft landing and a courteous “thank you for your service.” To many, that action speaks volumes about how rough the transition from the AT&T era to Discovery under Zaslav has been, including the controversial cancellation of the Batgirl movie in August.

And it takes place in the shadow of the utter failure of the search for a new leader. After months of searching, Zaslav came close to hiring executive-turned-producer Dan Lin for the role of DC chief, but talks fell through.

For now, De Luca, who is known for his fanboy roots and displays a deep knowledge of esoteric comic lore, remains firmly in charge of DC. He greenlit Joker 2, has been making decisions on Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash, and has been meeting with filmmakers. Rumors abound that his role could evolve into one with a more permanent and even exclusive oversight of DC.

[But the search for DC chief] marches on even as IP continues to be taken off the board by power players.  “Right now it’s the Wild West,” says one insider. “Everyone is trying to grab as much as they can. And this is exactly what happens in a leadership vacuum.”

One Warners insider disputes the idea of a leadership vacuum, saying the studio is not standing still and is moving ahead on several fronts, focusing on some of its A-list characters while planning and developing the wave beyond that. A scriptment for Wonder Woman 3 by Patty Jenkins is expected imminently and a script for a Flash sequel is already written — by Aquaman scribe David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick — in case that movie, to be released June 23, 2023, does well. (The film stars controversial actor Ezra Miller, who in August met with Warners leadership after a string of arrests and bad headlines, and today pled not guilty to a felony burglary charge.) With Superman back on the active block, plus Reeves’ The Batman sequel moving forward, it puts the company’s big stars in the big-screen rotation.

Is BA’s ticket sales really that bad? This is a new low. Why so open all of a sudden? Just a MOS2 announcement would have been too obvious. That’s why. So let’s air our dirty laundry. Let’s point the finger. Let’s reveal what we have been doing and our future plans. All this to divert from what they’re really doing with SM. How they’re using him.

Fans should not fall for this. If Zaslav could cancel a $90 mil, almost-done film, he can stop any project in development. The old regime didn’t want SM. Well, the old regime is gone. So, why should the return of SM depend on the success of BA or any other character? What kind of nonsense is that? It's just to sell BA ticket. SM was before BA or any other character. There are plans for a Flash sequel? What? And Patty Jenkins gets another shot after ruining WW84? What? They forgot about SM till DJ needed him to create buzz for his BA. Now fans get all this last minute stuff dumped on them so they’ll go see BA. Well, WBD can go burn in hell.

I’ll buy many tickets to see MOS2, but I won’t buy a ticket to see SM in a cameo in BA or Flash.

Black Adam Producer Talks Henry Cavill's Superman Future

Specifically, we pushed Garcia on a potential encounter between Dwayne Johnson’s anti-hero and the beacon of light that is Superman, and asked directly if Henry Cavill had officially signed on for more movies as Superman in the DC Universe. And Garcia told us:

I'm not sure what's going on in that regard. He wanted to come back, we wanted him to come back, and we wanted to make sure that we were able to establish that (his) character exists in the same universe as Black Adam. We have large ambitions for things we’d like to do, however all of these items are still in the works so I am unable to provide exact updates. But just know that we are fighting for it.

Garcia went on to tell CinemaBlend that their plans for Black Adam and Superman go far beyond one fight. He told us:

It's never been about a one off or just about a fight. No, it's about so much more than that. We really want to craft a long-form of storytelling and show that these two characters exist in the same universe and are going to have to deal with each other often, either on the same or opposite sides. Hopefully they're going to clash at some point, but it's not just about a ‘one fight’ situation. That was never our dream. That does not reward the fans. Fans want to feel a journey between these guys knowing that these guys exist in the same universe.

Because of that cameo, #BlackAdam is lighting social media on fire and Twitter is no exception! The rest of the DCEU titles is riding the success wave as well. At least until tomorrow's numbers where #AntManandTheWaspQuantumania will make a dent.

THR – Jan 4, 2018: Hamada already has a close relationship with Toby Emmerich, Warners‘ president and chief content officer who previously headed New Line, and insiders say he impressed Emmerich with his overseeing of Shazam!, the lone DC cinematic universe movie with which the division finds itself involved. (The movie is due to begin production this winter.)
