Biography

Maya Sansa (born 25 September 1975) is an Italian actress.

Maya Sansa was born in Rome the daughter of an Iranian father and an Italian mother. When she was 14, she started to study acting at her high school in Rome the "Virgilio". She then moved to London to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. There she graduated in acting and was soon picked by Marco Bellocchio to take part in his new film: La balia. Maya later worked with Bellocchio for a second time, starring in the film Goodmorning, Night. Sansa has also worked with Marco Tullio Giordana in the film The Best of Youth.

On 2 May 2004 The New York Times published an article which named her as the new image of Italian cinema.

On 14 June 2013, she won the David di Donatello for Best Supporting Actress for her role in Dormant Beauty.

She has a daughter, Talitha, with her partner Fabrice Scott with whom she lives in Paris.

Maya Sansa, qui est italienne par sa mère avec laquelle elle a grandi à Rome en Italie et iranienne par son père, commence sa carrière au théâtre à Rome à dix-huit ans. Elle part, entre 1995 et 1996, suivre des cours de théâtre de Rodney Archer au Covent Garden de Londres et obtient en 1999 un diplôme de la Guildhall School of Music and Drama.

Elle est révélée au cinéma par Marco Bellocchio qui lui donne son premier rôle en 1999 pour La Nourrice et avec lequel elle tournera par la suite. Avec l'actrice Regina Orioli, elle remporte le prix d'interprétation féminine lors du festival du film italien d'Annecy en 2002 pour son rôle dans le film Benzina de Monica Stambrini. C'est principalement son rôle dans Nos meilleures années en 2003 qui la fait connaître du grand public. Depuis 2005, elle vit à Paris où elle tourne des films et des téléfilms avec quelques réalisateurs français tout en continuant sa carrière en Italie.
