A French magazine called Première has been teasing an upcoming special article about Christopher Nolan's "Dunkirk" (2017). So far, Tom Hardy seems to have top billing in Dunkirk (although he is not the lead - 19 yr old unknown Fionn Whitehead is the lead). Tom Hardy is part of the ensemble cast of 10 listed in the press release.
First they teased a cropped photo which is assumed to be Fionn due to the coat (he is the one main character that often wore a long coat):

I love forward to seeing the article and someone's translation of it.

It just doesn't show enough. So much about this film is still wrapped in mystery. Knowing that Cillian Murphy and Tom Hardy are in this film makes it more attractive to me even though war films aren't one of my favorite types of subject matters. I'd like to see how Dunkirk measures up to Mel Gibson's Hacksaw Ridge and Clint Eastwood's American Sniper depicting war historical wars. OR will Dunkirk be like Apocalypse Now or Platoon? Well find out closer to its release date. Here's an article from The Wrap http://www.thewrap.com/christopher-nolan-dunkirk-little-dialogue/

The Wrap's article and many recent others are based on Nolan's big interview with the French magazine Premiere.
Here is the full original Premiere magazine interview, human-translated from French to English (2 sequential posts - first the intro then the Nolan interview):

Nolan does not discuss any of the actors. He talks about there being no backstories for the characters, little dialogue, three "temporalities", and a lot of suspense. Having followed along with pre-production and production, I expect it to be a stunning experience for the eyes, ears and nerves. Nolan, in a previous brief interview, said he wants to put the viewer on the beach, in the boat, in the cockpit. (For example, one crazy thing he did was bolt a scaffold and the IMAX camera right on the wing of a vintage plane so the IMAX could film into the cockpit during flight. I also saw a photo of Nolan, Hoytema and the IMAX practically in the middle of an explosion on the mole (pier), with Nolan only protected by a raincoat, safety glasses and a borrowed 1940 helmet.)
IMO Dunkirk will not be like Hacksaw Ridge. In a Taboo interview (the The Wrap), Tom Hardy described it as Nolan making a classic war movie, like those of the 40's and 50's. I think Nolan's movie will have plenty of violence and death but avoid close-up gore.
Tom Hardy is part of an ensemble cast of 11: Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Sir Mark Rylance, Kennth Branagh, Fionn Whitehead, Aneurin Barnard, Harry Styles, Jack Lowden, James D'Arcy, Barry Keoghan, Tom Glynn-Carney. Of those, unknown 19-year-old may be the only lead - hard to tell at this point, but Nolan called Fionn the "star" of the movie, and the early Warner Brothers press release during casting stated that the cast would be "headed by yet-to-be-cast unknowns".
