Doris Lloyd is an actress whose face may be familiar to you, even if her name isn't. From 1925 to 1967 she appeared in over 150 films - she also performed in numerous t.v. productions - so pops up in a lot of different things.
Where I know her best from is her delightful, memorable performances in 1926's Silent comedy Exit Smiling and in 1931's Waterloo Bridge. There's something unique about her that renders Miss Lloyd neither generic nor someone who fades into the scenery. Particularly in the latter aforementioned movie, she's absolutely terrific - a standout (in a significant supporting role), in fact. I've also seen her in reruns of this or that classic t.v. series episodes, as well as, of course, in 1965's The Sound of Music. Too, in a smattering of minor or uncredited parts in this or that old film.
