John Irwin McGiver (Nova York, 5 de novembre del 1913 - West Fulton, Nova York, 9 de setembre del 1975) va ser un actor de personatges nord-americà que va fer més d'un centenar d'aparicions a la televisió i al cinema durant un període de dues dècades des del 1955 fins al 1975.

John Irwin McGiver (November 5, 1913 – September 9, 1975) was a character actor who made more than a hundred appearances in television and motion pictures over a two-decade span from 1955 to 1975.

The owl-faced, portly actor with the mid-Atlantic accent was known for his performances as the religious fanatic Mr. O'Daniel in the film Midnight Cowboy; as the kindly Tiffany's salesman in Breakfast at Tiffany's; and as the ill-fated, but honorable Senator Jordan in the original film version of The Manchurian Candidate. He also appeared on many TV shows and commercials, including a Baggies spot in the 1960s, as well as the first of a popular series of commercials for the American Express charge card ("Do you know me?").

John McGiver (* 5. November 1913 in New York City; † 9. September 1975 in West Fulton, New York) war ein US-amerikanischer Filmschauspieler. Bereits seit Universitätszeiten hatte er die Intention gehegt, Schauspieler zu werden, doch erst der Zufall – ein alter Schulkollege und Theaterproduzent bot ihm eine Hauptrolle an, da der Star spontan die Produktion verlassen hatte – brachte McGiver im Jahr 1955 hauptberuflich in die Schauspielerei. Dies war der Beginn einer erfolgreichen Karriere als Charakterdarsteller für den kleinen, beinahe glatzköpfigen McGiver.

In den Jahren von 1955 bis 1975 wirkte McGiver in mehr als hundert Film- und Fernsehrollen mit, häufig in kleinen, oft komischen Rollen. Seine erste Filmrolle erhielt er 1957 in Billy Wilders Komödie Ariane – Liebe am Nachmittag, wo er einen betrogenen, fatalistisch erscheinenden Ehemann spielte, der den von Gary Cooper gespielten Liebhaber seiner Frau umbringen will. Zu seinen bekanntesten Rollen zählen der freundliche Tiffany-Verkäufer in Frühstück bei Tiffany (1961); der ehrenhafte, aber unglückselige Senator Thomas Jordan in Botschafter der Angst (1962); sowie der religiöse Fanatiker Mr. O'Daniel in Asphalt-Cowboy (1969).
