Lionel Barrymore, nascut Lionel Herbert Blythe (Filadèlfia, Pennsilvània, 28 d’abril de 1878 - Van Nuys, Los Angeles, 15 de novembre de 1954), va ser un actor teatral i radiofònic a més de director i actor de cinema. Fill d’una de les famílies teatrals més prestigioses de les primeres dècades del segle XX, va guanyar l'Oscar al millor actor pel seu paper d’advocat borratxo a A Free Soul (1931) i també va ser nominat a l'Oscar a la millor direcció per Madame X (1929).

Lionel Barrymore (born Lionel Herbert Blythe; April 28, 1878 – November 15, 1954) was an American actor of stage, screen and radio as well as a film director. He won an Academy Award for Best Actor for his performance in A Free Soul (1931), and remains best known to modern audiences for the role of villainous Mr. Potter in Frank Capra's 1946 film It's a Wonderful Life. He is also particularly remembered as Ebenezer Scrooge in annual broadcasts of A Christmas Carol during his last two decades. He is also known for playing Dr. Leonard Gillespie in MGM's nine Dr. Kildare films, a role he reprised in a further six films focussing solely on Gillespie and in a radio series entitled The Story of Dr. Kildare. He was a member of the theatrical Barrymore family.

Nació en Londres en el seno de una familia de actores, entre los que también destacó su hermano John Barrymore. Debutó en Nueva York en 1893, junto a su abuela, Louisa Lane Drew, en The Road to Ruin. Destacó sobre todo como actor cinematográfico en David Copperfield (1935, de George Cukor), Margarita Gautier (1936, de Cukor), ¡Qué bello es vivir! (1956, de Frank Capra) y Duelo al sol (1946, de King Vidor).
