Stanwyck is one of those stars - along with Bogart and Davis - who is always worth watching, who's presence elevated any film in which she was cast. Such a magnetic star and brilliant talent.
Miss Stanwyck is wonderful also in (along with in, of course, an array of other titles) 1931's The Miracle Woman, the same year's Night Nurse, and 1940's Remember the Night.
There's actually none of her performances I can think of that either "don't work" or that I don't like.
I loved her in Remember the Night, and she has wonderful chemistry with Fred, but the film was not one of my favourites. I probably need to take another look at it.
Somehow, I have yet to see Night Nurse - although I love pre-code films and this one, from the very title, sounds particularly lurid!
I wan't overly impressed with The Lady Eve... I don't know, she was a little over the top IMO. and too pushy. Plus I didn't like her as a gold digger even though she did come good in the end.
I kept feeling sorry for the poor naive millionaire.
I loved The Lady Eve... as with most of Preston Sturges' films of that era it just moves so quickly, and the laughs don't stop coming. Between that and Ball of Fire, I doubt any actress has has as funny as year as Stanwyck's 1941!
