Burt Lancaster (1913-1994) is a huge star of yesteryear and deserving of some comments and discussion.
I know him mainly from From Here to Eternity (1953), in which he is of course great - not to mention featured in one of most iconic cinematic moments of all time.

One of my favourite actors - I will watch Burt Lancaster in anything. He played a very wide range of roles with equal conviction, from the swashbuckling action of The Crimson Pirate to the tough Sergeant in From Here to Eternity, the fast-talking evangelist in Elmer Gantry to the refined Italian count in The Leopard. Perhaps his greatest performance, however, was as the aging gangster in Atlantic City. He's simply magical, deeply moving in Louis Malle's lovely film.
Lancaster was physically imposing with deep gravitas, but he also had one of the great killer smiles in the movies.

I've not seen as many of his films as I'd like to, but was impressed by him and his performances in the ones that I have seen.

As well as those which I mentioned above, I'd very highly recommend Local Hero - one of my all-time favourites, with a smallish but marvellous late-career role for Lancaster, Sweet Smell of Success, The Swimmer, Seven Days in May, Birdman of Alcatraz, Brute Force and A Child is Waiting. I'm sure there are others which I'm forgetting, or which I have yet to see. A great actor, truly charismatic and always enjoyable.
