Kris Kristofferson, né Kristoffer Kristian Kristofferson, est un chanteur et acteur américain, né le 22 juin 1936 à Brownsville (Texas).

Il est le fils d'un général de l'US Air Force, qui, devenu pilote de ligne, fera voyager sa famille à travers les États-Unis, avant de se fixer en Californie.

Les études de Kris se font d'abord au Pomona College où il pratique tout particulièrement le sport et l'écriture. Il poursuit ses études au Merton College à Oxford (Angleterre), où il commence à composer et interpréter des chansons. Il est alors régulièrement engagé sous le nom de Kris Carson.

Kris Kristofferson va servir ensuite comme pilote dans l'US Army, notamment en Allemagne. Dans le même temps, il continue son activité musicale avec un groupe qui tourne dans le circuit des clubs.

En 1965, il refuse un poste d'enseignant à West Point et part vivre à Nashville (Tennessee), capitale de la musique country, où il exerce divers emplois avant de sympathiser avec Johnny Cash et Janis Joplin.

En 1970, Kris Kristofferson enregistre un premier album: Me and Bobby McGee, aussitôt récompensé.

En 1971, Dennis Hopper engage Kris pour son film: The Last Movie. C'est le début de sa carrière au cinéma, où il joue dans divers films à succès tels que: Pat Garrett et Billy le Kid (1973) ou Apportez-moi la tête d'Alfredo Garcia (1974). En 1976, il joue aux côtés de Barbra Streisand dans Une étoile est née (A Star is Born), en 1978, il est aux côtés de Ali MacGraw dans Convoy où il incarne le personnage principal du Duck, un camionneur rebelle pourchassé par la police locale, et dont les sympathisants forment spontanément un convoi routier de plusieurs dizaines de poids-lourds au travers de l'Arizona et du Nouveau-Mexique, et en 1980 aux côtés d’Isabelle Huppert dans La Porte du paradis (Heaven's Gate) de Michael Cimino. À partir de 1979, Kris Kristofferson apparaît également dans des téléfilms: La Route de la liberté, La Fleur ensanglantée, Les Derniers Jours de Frank et Jesse James, La Diligence de Tombstone.

Kris Kristofferson est à nouveau en haut de l'affiche en 1996 dans Lone Star de John Sayles et en 1998 dans La fille d'un soldat ne pleure jamais. L'acteur participe également à la série des Blade à partir de 1998, joue dans Payback un an plus tard, puis dans la version de Tim Burton de La Planète des singes en 2001. En 2002, Kris Kristofferson retrouve les vampires dans Blade 2 de Guillermo del Toro, avant de donner la réplique pour la troisième fois à Wesley Snipes pour les besoins de la licence dans Blade: Trinity.

En 2004, il entre au Country Music Hall of Fame.

Kris Kristofferson est marié avec Lisa Meyers depuis 1983. Ils possèdent et habitent leur maison de Los Flores Canyon à Malibu, en Californie, ainsi qu'une résidence à Hana, sur l'île de Maui. ...

Kristoffer Kristofferson (born June 22, 1936) is an American retired country singer, songwriter, and actor. Among his songwriting credits are "Me and Bobby McGee", "For the Good Times", "Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down", and "Help Me Make It Through the Night", all of which were hits for other artists.

In 1985, Kristofferson joined fellow country artists Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson and Johnny Cash in the country music supergroup The Highwaymen, which was a key creative force in the outlaw country music movement that eschewed the traditional Nashville country music machine in favor of independent songwriting and producing.

As an actor, Kristofferson is known for his roles in Pat Garrett & Billy the Kid (1973), Blume in Love (1973), Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore (1974), A Star Is Born (1976) (which earned him a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor), Convoy (1978), Heaven's Gate (1980), Stagecoach (1986), Lone Star (1996), and the Blade film trilogy (1998–2004).

In 2004, Kristofferson was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame.

Studiował literaturę na Oxfordzie. Napisał powieść, która nie znalazła wydawcy. Pracował w barze oraz grał zawodowo w football amerykański. W 1965 zrezygnował z obejmowanego stanowiska w Siłach Powietrznych USA pragnąc zrealizować się jako piosenkarz. Zaczął pracować jako sprzątacz w studiu nagrań Columbii w Nashville. Spotkał tam Johnny'ego Casha, który początkowo nagrał kilka jego piosenek, ale później zignorował go. W między czasie Kris pracował jako pilot helikoptera. Udało mu się zwrócić uwagę Casha, kiedy wylądował swoim helikopterem na jego podwórku i dał mu kilka taśm ze swoimi nagraniami. Cath nagrał z nim wtedy "Sunday Mornign Coming Down", która w 1970r. została ogłoszona piosenką roku przez Country Music Association. Kris stał się wtedy znanym człowiekiem. Niestety zaczął coraz częściej zaglądać do kieliszka. Z powodu nadużywania alkoholu żona, Rita Coolidge, zażądała rozwodu. Niedługo potem stracił pracę pilota, gdy zostawił maszynę bez dozoru. Otrząsnął się z nałogu alkoholowego w 1976 roku. Kariera filmowa rozpoczęła się w 1980 roku po filmie "Wrota niebios" Michaela Cimino. W nowej wersji "Dyliżansu" Johna Forda z 1986 roku godnie zastąpił Johna Wayne w roli Billy'ego Kida. Jedną z najlepszych kreacji, które stworzył to zmęczony swym zawodem tropiciel przestępców w "Żywym lub martwym" Johna Guillermina w 1989 roku. Kris występował już wcześniej w westernach. Najgłośniejszą i najlepszą jego rolą w filmach tego gatunku była postać rozpaczliwie broniącego swej wolności bandyty w wybitnym "Pat Garrett i Billy Kid" Sama Peckinpaha z 1973 roku. Zagrał również w dwóch innych dziełach tego reżysera: dramacie sensacyjnym"Dajcie mi głowę Alfredo Garcii" [74] oraz filmie "drogi" - "Konwój" [78]. Obecnie ma już wyrobioną pozycję w showbiznesie. Ten piosenkarz, autor tekstów i aktor, twierdzi, iż dzieci są jego prawdziwym dziedzictwem.

Im Laufe seiner rund 50-jährigen Karriere verkaufte er alleine in den USA sieben Millionen Alben. Er wurde dreimal mit dem Grammy ausgezeichnet und erhielt den Ehrenpreis für sein Lebenswerk.

Neben seiner musikalischen Karriere ist Kristofferson seit den 1970er Jahren auch als Filmschauspieler tätig. 1971 gab er nach einer kleinen Rolle in The Last Movie sein Filmdebüt in Cisco Pike, in dem er neben Gene Hackman die Hauptrolle spielte. 1974 folgte mit Alice lebt hier nicht mehr ein weiterer Film, welcher der Hauptdarstellerin Ellen Burstyn einen Oscar einbrachte. 1976 spielte er in der Neuverfilmung von A Star Is Born an der Seite von Barbra Streisand. Für diese Rolle wurde er mit einem Golden Globe ausgezeichnet.

Häufig war Kristofferson auch als Hauptdarsteller in Spätwestern wie Sam Peckinpahs Pat Garrett jagt Billy the Kid zu sehen. In Convoy verkörperte er den Fernfahrer Rubber Duck, in der Blade-Reihe war er als Abraham Whistler zu sehen. In Heaven’s Gate von Michael Cimino spielte er die Hauptrolle. Erwähnenswert auch seine Rolle als Ringo Kid in Höllenfahrt nach Lordsburg (Stagecoach), wo er an der Seite seiner Highwaymen-Kollegen Cash, Nelson und Jennings auftrat.
