Tom Mix, de nom vertader Thomas Hezekiah Mix, fou un actor de cinema estatunidenc.

El 1903 formà part d'una banda musical de la cavalleria d'Oklahoma, i uns anys més tard, fou, primer cambrer i més tard xèrif de Dewey. Més tard s'incorporà a diversos espectacles de circ de l'Oest Llunyà, motiu que el portaria a convertir-se en proveïdor de cavalls i genets, indis i vaquers, pels films de la productora Selig, que finalment li donà l'oportunitat de posar-se davant les càmeres, i amb la que hi va romandre fins al 1917, forjant el seu estrellat en els films de l'Oest, escrivint i inclòs dirigint alguns dels curt metratges que protagonitzava. Aquest mateix any signà contracte amb la productora Fox, a la que hi va romandre pràcticament fins al final del cinema mut, el 1928, preparant una mitjana de sis films per any.

Biography

The native of Mix Run, Pa., became a star with his first feature, 1910’s “Ranch Life in the Great Southwest.” An expert shot, cattle wrangler and horseman, Mix made some 160 cowboy silent Saturday matinee films in the 1920s always playing the man in the white hat who saved the day. Even his trusty steed Tony “The Wonder Horse” became a superstar receiving countless fan mail from kids.

In 1932, he returned to films, making nine talkies at Universal. His last screen appearance was in the 1935 15-part serial, “The Miracle Rider.” In 1940, he died at age 60 in a car crash in Arizona. A memorial is at the site of his death on California 79 near Florence. “The Wonder Horse” died two years later.
