Discuss Harry Styles

To start off, here are some of the older main articles Harry's been mentioned in (not counting pic-spam articles):

Pre-production interview w/ casting director John Papsidera about Harry's casting - excerpt:

John Papsidera said: “Harry was absolutely right for the role. As an actor he is unknown, but his readings made him an obvious choice. We thought he was fresh and interesting and he won the role.

“It wasn’t because he’s a well known pop star – if anything that was more of a detriment, because it could bring the wrong message and we don’t want people pulled out of the film because of who they are.

“Our aim was to have people who are fresh and don’t bring a lot of prior work with them, so the audience will be really immersed in the film and not struggling with recognisable famous personalities.

“So Harry really had to overcome hurdles to get past that. He fought hard for it and his work was impressive and that’s what attracted us to him.

In article about Fionn

He (Fionn) was put through the ringer before production even started. “I was quite scrawny when I started out, so they saw that and realized that they might injure me in the whole process of shooting,” Whitehead laughed. So the upstart was dispatched to Dunkirk (where the majority of filming would be completed on location) two weeks early to work with the stunt team. Along with costars Harry Styles and Aneurin Barnard, Whitehead was put through a boot camp of sorts. “I did a lot of circuit training, did a little bit of boxing, did some weapons training. Then I went to the beaches and I was swimming in full war gear, which once it got waterlogged was about 60, 80 pounds. Running up the beach with stretchers with weighted dummies on them. It was quite a lot.”

Speaking of Mr. Styles… The One Direction singer also makes his film debut in Dunkirk, and Whitehead had nothing but props for the pop star-turned-actor. “He’s a lovely guy. Really hard working. There was no preferential treatment, and he didn’t ask for any. He was just a great asset to the team, one of the crew, no differentiation.”

Hardy about Styles:

Dunkirk, which stars Hardy as a spitfire pilot, also stars young One Direction singer Harry Styles in his first film role. Unfortunately, the pair didn’t really work together on the set. “I met him once, really briefly. It was lovely, big hug,” Hardy says. “He’s very polite and just a sweet guy.”

Nolan, however, was “very effusive” about Styles, Hardy continues. “And that’s not easy, to come in from a very specific department in the industry, and cross over. So poor guy is gonna be judged. I wouldn’t want to be in those shoes, but from what I hear is that, actually, it’s gonna be a very comfortable transition for him, because he’s done such great work—which is really a testament, not only to his skill as an artist, [but] also Christopher’s part in that as well. . . . One Direction aside, do you know what I mean? Which I can’t say I know an awful lot about.”

In interviews for other projects, some of the stars were asked about Harry (rude IMO but the celeb media is relentless). Cillian said Harry had a lot of charisma and that he (Cillian) understood the path from performing live music to acting because that was also his path. Jack Lowden said Harry went through the same audition process he went through. Mark Rylance said Harry fit right in, didn't have any airs, was well-liked by the stunt crew, and that he thought Harry was brave when doing some uncomfortable stunts.

Video: BBC Radio 5 interviewed the special effects supervisor of Dunkirk, Paul Corbould.

One interviewer is thinking Dunkirk will be a La La Land of the 2018 Oscars and even muses about Harry Styles getting a Best Supporting Actor nomination (unlikely since it's a big ensemble cast, no matter how good Styles is). Corbould says "Harry was amazing in it, Harry Styles".

I always enjoy hearing that Harry did well. Now we've heard that from one of the stunt men, the special effects supervisor, Mark Rylance, and also Hardy said Nolan was effusive about Harry. I always take it with a grain of salt because Harry is so charismatic and likable but it's all nice to hear.

Yesterday marked 1 year since Deadline and Variety announced Harry's role:

From The Sun, some nice quotes from Cillian Murphy about Harry Styles:

** Dunkirk duo Hollywood star Cillian Murphy has praised pop star turned thespian Harry Styles as ‘a natural’**
Teen sensation Styles has turned his hand to acting, and in his breakout role stars alongside the Cork actor in the WWII epic Dunkirk, released this summer

HOLLYWOOD star Cillian Murphy has praised pop star turned thespian Harry Styles as ‘a natural.’
Not content with tearing up the charts, teen sensation Styles has turned his hand to acting, and in his breakout role stars alongside the Cork actor in the WWII epic Dunkirk, released this summer.
And Murphy said the One Direction hitmaker was a pro on set.

He said: “He’s a natural. He really is, he just has it. It’s impossible for somebody to be that magnetic on stage, this endless charisma and not have that transition to acting. One goes with other, they inform each other.

“Chris [Nolan – director] wouldn’t have hired him if he didn’t think he was up to the job. It’s as simple as that.

“He would never be swayed by that sort of hype and the populist meaning, it’s down to ability. And he’s got it, he’s very talented. And he’s a lovely kid.

“Very generous, very kind, a pleasure to be around. Considering the wave he’s ridden for how many years, very unaffected by it all.”

Nolan Cinemacon interview about Dunkirk includes quote about casting Harry:

Young fans were very excited to hear that you cast One Direction singer Harry Styles in a supporting role. How did you know he had the acting chops to pull it off?

When we put the cast together, we had some established names: Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance, Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy. But for the guys on the beach, we really wanted young unknowns. He’s not that unknown, but he’d never done anything as an actor before. So he auditioned. I auditioned literally thousands of young men with different combinations of young men. And he had it.

Dunkirk TV ads just started! They were shown during the NCAA final four.

I am sharing a twitter video link because Youtubes keep getting pulled:

Everything We Know About Harry Styles' Acting Debut in Dunkirk (But ... Does His Character Die?!)

In addition to the hype surrounding the release of Harry Styles‘ solo album, there’s another highly anticipated moment weighing on his fans’ minds: his acting debut in Dunkirk.

The singer is marking his big-screen arrival in Christopher Nolan‘s buzzed-about war movie, but because the director famously keeps plot details under wraps, there isn’t a lot of information out there on Styles’ character. In the two trailers released so far, Styles appears only briefly and it’s not always in the best light as he’s seen swimming for his life in both.

Will his character live to see the light of day? Here’s everything we know so far about Styles’ work in the film:

Esquire:
Harry Styles Could Become the Next Frank Sinatra
With a new solo record and a role in a World War II epic, Styles' auspicious start as a pop idol will be a footnote—just like it is for Sinatra.

Soon the public will meet Harry Styles the serious actor. In July, Christopher Nolan's World War II epic Dunkirk hits theaters, featuring a deep bench of serious British actors like Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, and Kenneth Branagh. Styles has somehow elbowed his way into this pack for his acting debut. It's unclear how much screen time Styles gets in Nolan's film about the historic evacuation of the Allies from the shores of France in the opening days of World War II. Gossip sites have reported that Styles was given a bigger role after impressing Nolan, but the latest trailer barely features him. One thing we do know about his role is that he drowns.

Harry Styles's tough competition for Dunkirk role
http://www.therecord.com/whatson-story/7311605-harry-styles-s-tough-competition-for-dunkirk-role/

During an appearance on the BBC Radio 2 Breakfast Show on Friday morning (05.12.17), Chris Evans asked Harry: "So ... the director didn't put you are the front of the queue, apparently he auditioned hundreds of people for the part."

To which Harry replied: "No. There was a lot of people. When I walked into the room everyone auditioning I had seen on movies and in TV. It was good, it was fun. It was really intense ... I just did a tape and a week of auditions."
