Een eigenschap van de TARDIS is dat zij van binnen groter is dan van buiten. De buitenkant van de TARDIS heeft de vorm van een ouderwetse, Engelse politietelefooncel met een mooie, blauwe kleur (beter bekend als ‘TARDIS-blauw’). De Doctor reist altijd in het gezelschap van èèn of meerdere reisgenoten.
