讨论 Avengers: Age of Ultron

quite possibly the most tedious film i've seen in the past five years... it really is only made for hardcore comic book fans and has zero appeal to any other audience. it doesn't work as a movie

I watched it in the theatre when it first came out and almost fell asleep, my nephew took a 20 minute nap towards the end and, as a child, he's a big fan of this stuff

I enjoyed Age of Ultron and it is very much indeed a movie that requires you to have consumed some of the other movies within the MCU to get a full immersion into the film. It would be kind of like buying a ticket to see Godfather II without having seen or read Godfather I.

It's one of my least favorites in the MCU, but I wouldn't call it tedious. Shallow, maybe. I mean, it almost has no script. About ten minutes of exposition at the begining and then it's just a collection of action clips. The only attempt at character development that I recall, is with the twins. And we just met them, so who cares for them? I thought it was ok to watch once, I was entertained for the most part.

It seems to be one of peoples favorites though, so maybe we just fail to see its appeal.

I didn't enjoy it half as much as The Avengers. Was expecting too much, I guess.

There are too many scenes with people getting choked/strangled in it, too.

One of the many useless things about both these Avenger movies is how they don't have a proper beginning and it seems like you are coming in half way through the movie. You get immediately hit with all this action with no context. It's not as though they only go for 90 minutes and need to cram the action in as soon as possible. In fact there's lots of padding in these dumb bum numbing 150 minute movies. So why cant' they at least use some of that time to start the movie properly in a coherent fashion ?

I needed a more HAL 9000 type of Ultron.

I know, right? It was disorienting to have it constantly trading wisecracks with Tony.

Still, I owe it to myself to watch the film again.

Yeah, I love a machine that isn't evil; it's just doing what it was programmed to do.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes did that well with Ultron.

I think you hit the nail on the head with the bolded part of your post, because I recently rewatched it with no expectations at all, and just loved it. The action didn't get a huge amount better, but the film was still very entertaining -- especially the Hulk vs. Iron Man in hulkbuster armor fight.

ye i couldnt finish watching avengers 1 because it was the same shit

Yeah, I agree, I was pretty entertained by this one. I always found the first film a bit overrated. So I preferred this one. It had a bit more story and a lot less exposition. I find that any of the criticisms you hear about this film can also be leveled at the first film.

Though I'm not sure if you necessarily need to be a hardcore comic fan to enjoy it because I know very little about The Avengers. I think you just need to be up to date with the MCU films. Which a lot of people these days seem to be.

I loved this movie, it's probably the most underrated MCU film. I do have a problem with it though- Ulton. Ultron is totally evil in the comics. His voice should be cold and robotic. Here, they try to make Spader somewhat sympathetic, and it fails.

I think you're correct... It is safe to take it for granted that anyone unde 30 is quite well versed in superhero/comicbook culture simply from the movies, tv shows and youtube...

i dont think its necessary to roll with the flock of sheep and "keep up" in order to enjoy a movie.

No, but it doesn't mean that sort of film shouldn't exist. There are plenty of films out there that exist in and of themselves that you can watch if an extended universe doesn't interest you. I've never thought that the MCU films have generally been anything amazing. But I do like the appeal of an ongoing world of films that are all connected. It's something kind of new and different to film. It won't last forever. The choice is yours whether you buy into it or not.
