Assassins can get to and assassinate not one but two Supreme Court judges; they can assassinate several lawyers; why, they can even assassinate the assassin who assassinated the judges....

But a 24 year old damsel and a journalist escape them at every turn, and turns the tables on them?

GTFOH.

This movie anticipated the plot of Prison Break, decades before that show began it's bizarrely protracted run on FOX

I take it your previous account here was suspended? (I won't mention the handle but we both know who you are). Here's hoping you've learned from that.

Here's hoping that you've picked up a copy of Haidt and Lukianoff's "The Coddling Of The American Mind", and that you're voraciously absorbing it's content.

"You just...don't get it, do you? You don't." - Dr. Evil, to his son Scott. Shall I grind some beans for a pot of coffee, or will you not last even that long this time 'round?

Back on topic: These mainstream Hollywood thrillers require us to suspend our disbelief considerably

I agree. Stranger things have happened, but I agree.

What makes you so certain that those who don't agree with you on every last point are the ones who don't get it?

Your determined overuse of strawman is incredible. Nowhere can anyone, ever, observe anything I've ever written, or published, or been interviewed about, as indicating I think anyone should agree with me on "every last point." Quit it, for the sake of your own credibility.

It's hardly improbable that you and those who think as you do may not be any less flawed than the rest of us mere mortals whom you share this planet with.

Absolutely agree. Yet, when I challenged you with a similar argument, you dismissed it out of hand. And, surely, you'll argue about "when did this happen", because that's how self-aware you are...or, aren't, as the case more is.

I'm not just picking on those who identify as left of center either. Those who lean right or who identify as centrist have their own shibboleths which are equally ripe for evisceration

The only thing you are eviscerating with your incessant strawman tactic is your own credibility.

Look. Please, let's let this specific tangent of our ongoing antagonism, silly as it is, just end here. The record will show I (thankfully) was not involved in whatever squabble got you canned last time, and although one may argue I poked a stick in your cage with where this tangent went, I'd rather not have this goad you into being canned again. There will be hills to die on, where you'll have to be you, take your stand, and let the chips fall where they may - on your behalf, let me offer friendly encouragement to not to go off the rails right here, so soon. I lay down my sword here, please lay yours down beside mine and let's move on to more constructive, civil discourse.

Fine by me. As evidenced by my first reply to this thread(which pertained solely to the movie in question, and the flaws within it that you rightly pointed out) ,

Wow, thanks! Coming from you, such an acknowledgement is noteworthy.

I'm happy to discuss The Pelican Brief, and the points you've raised about the plot, if you're willing to get back on topic

Yes, I sure am. Unfortunately, I never watched Prison Break, so have nothing of material value to add to that; however, I think I can take from your contribution that, if this tiresome plot armor device irked me in TPB, I'd probably not endure a whole lot of Prison Break. Thanks for that! (no sarcasm intended, genuine thanks!).

yours truly wasn't the one who first brought up past dust-ups. You brought all of that up, in your retort to my first reply.

My retort was indeed a retort but, no, I did not bring up "all of" anything, nor any particular past dust-up (once again, that strawman thing. Oy, you really need to work on this).

I merely observed that the style of your comment reminded me of someone so clearly I was willing to take a shot in the dark that you are the same person who was suspended under a previous username (and, not by me, nor stemming from any dust-up we may have had, since I wasn't engaged in whatever was your last dust-up before moderators decided they'd had their fill of your crap and pulled the plug, indicating beyond doubt or dispute that I wasn't the only one put off by the extent of your...edge, let's say).

And I went to length in this portion of my response to make it abundantly clear that, again, I'm happy to engage with you when you're contributing constructively (please read no patronization in this statement, I'm not "against you"), and hope your suspension encourages you to keep it together and not follow your same approach, lest you get suspended all over again - that, my friend, is on you, and I'm among many who are honestly hoping you can rise to this challenge - just, be clear, changing your profile will not get you much more mileage if you drive the same way that got you suspended. At best, it's just a temporary pivot that won't circumvent your accountability to try to play nicer in this sandbox.

I know that plot armour is a known thing, and is invoked for most movies/shows where the main character(s) must constantly outrun and stay just a hairbreadth beyond the danger that creates tension, drama, and the compelling nature of "I've got to stay tuned to see what happens next."

However, I wonder if my distraction of its use here in TPB is because this movie is not a brain-dead popcorn action flick with some musclebound meathead grunting monosyllabic tag lines while bouncing from car chase to car crash to falling from ridiculous heights and bouncing up to engage protracted fight scenes enduring blow after blow that would knock TF out any normal human being, before foiling the villain, getting the girl, and saving the world. Watching movies like these, one knows going in what it is.

TPB was realistic, drama-driven; and, I suppose, there are people , say, like, Edward Snowden, or Ellen Brockovich, who shine light into dark corners that powerful people would rather keep in darkness, and then manage to outrun them, stay out of trouble, and even keep their voice. The good, little person does win, sometimes.

Maybe, I'm wrong here. Maybe, it shouldn't have bothered me so much.

But, rationality aside, it did. I'm only human, after all.
