Discuss The Producers

My choice for the ten worst movie musicals I've ever struggled through to the end of. What would your picks be?

  1. The Producers (2005)
  2. Half a Sixpence (1967)
  3. Grease 2 (1982)
  4. Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)
  5. The Music Man (1962)
  6. The Unsinkable Molly Brown (1964)
  7. The Happiest Millionaire (1967)
  8. Oh! What a Lovely War (1969)
  9. A Chorus Line (1985)
  10. Annie (1982)

Haven't seen some of these, but 5 and 6 are actually excellent. What makes them among the worst? I would add Song of Norway, Star, Paint Your Wagon, Man of La Mancha (all from late 60s early 70s)

I haven't seen those you mention. I will probably watch Man of La Mancha one day - I'll check out O'Toole in anything - but don't have high hopes!

The Music Man and Molly Brown have their fans, certainly, but I found them unsufferable!

The 60s and 70s seem to be the era of the bloated white elephant musical. There are those which hold up - I love Oliver! for one - and many more (Doctor Dolittle, Camelot, Hello Dolly, Lost Horizon...) which seemingly do not, although I'm sure all are loved by some quarters.
