I'm a big fan of L.A. Confidential and recently learned that is part of a larger body of work called his "L.A. Quartet" which also includes The Black Dahlia.

Reading a little of his biography, a particular tragedy in his life is the primary inspiration for The Black Dahlia, and that should influence how I absorb this film - once I've finally watched it, I'll circle back to discuss.
