The first 45-50 minutes is wonderful (aside from the very first 4 minutes). The journey with the horses, the cultural clash and the well-cast group of Icelanders shows promise for future movies. Sadly, the story has some major plotholes or at least lacks explanatory power, leaving me with slightly mixed feelings. It could have been shorter and still had the same effect: an introduction to 19th century Iceland.
