Discusión Coming to America

It's always been a mystery to me as to why Lisa changed her mind. Was there supposed to be a scene that was left on the cutting room floor, or just a case of let's just wrap up the movie/ lazy writing?

I would imagine a few days to maybe a week had passed. Not sure what scene they would have shown, other than Lisa turning down Akeem the way she did because he was a prince. His parents changed the law for him to marry anyone. Im sure the King or maybe the queen went back and spoke with her and that convinced her. Everyone flew to Africa and lived happily ever after. I wonder if Akeem would still get his royal baths though after being married?

No, I don't think so. I think they just wanted to put the element of surprise into the denouement. Do you remember how they had a veil over her head at the wedding scene's start? It's to lead you to wonder, and then be satisfied when the bride turns out to be Lisa.

I don't know if you can fit an element of surprise into a denouement.

I had a similar thought, Halberstram. I kept thinking, well, the wedding scene is the climax, but I wasn't sure. Not much at all happens after that scene. Anyway, thanks for your input!

I was simply thinking, the standard capacity of a denouement is 10 liters, but an element of surprise is 12 liters, at least.

You'd need an industrial sized denouement, or pay for an expansion of a government issued denouement.
