The Crow (1994) probably holds the world record for most unsuccessful attempts at being remade. Not that I was ever interested in seeing a remake, but out of morbid curiosity I've been keeping my ear to the rumor mill. Welp after 20 odd years of rumors it looks like someone finally made it happen. It's completed and the producers are shopping around for a distributor, according to Variety (looks like they might've got one, Lionsgate, tentative release Mar 24, 2024).
With an impressive $50 mil budget and some big names like Bill Skarsgård and FKA Twigs on the bill, looks like it'll be a big hoopla.
I'm not thrilled about the director Rupert Sanders' track record. He's infamous for Ghost in the Shell 2017 which similarly had a huge budget and Scarlett Johansson but I thought it was kinda forgettable, and it sure pissed off fans of the original manga & 1995 anime. So Sanders sorta has a reputation for destroying all your 90s childhood memories. I think I'll skip this one, but I guess congratulations are in order for someone breaking the curse. RIP Brandon Lee. There can be only one.

Cue Charlton Heston from Planet of the Apes (1968):
"You maniacs! You blew it up! ***damn you all to hell!"
Seriously, though, I had no idea. I try not to get too exercised about these kinds of things anymore . . . the newer versions of my classic favorites I just pretend don't exist, now; like, well, the new Planet of the Apes movies;)
God, was Linda Harrison hot.

lmao I see what you did there. Planet of the Apes itself has suffered a few too many cash-ins. Get your stinkin remakes off me you damn dirty ape!
Welp I figure at least remakes draw renewed attention to the original. In this case though, it seems like more of an insult since the original Crow serves as a sort of monument to Brandon Lee. Remaking it seems like building a new cruise ship and calling it the Titanic 😬

lol yea that's something that may haunt the production, Skarsgård's fame as Pennywise. One of the things that made the original Crow so iconic was that Brandon Lee was mostly unknown aside from a few minor action roles. So when he exploded on the scene as Eric Draven we saw an entirely original personality. I think that's also why the sequels with other actors never caught on. Ok I'll stop fanboying on Brandon Lee now 😐 But seriously, it takes a lot for me to become a diehard fan of an action flick. Like Heath Ledger's Joker, a charismatic performance can instantly elevate meh to masterpiece.
