Twenty one years ago, I went to the theater to see this movie. As a Classic Mission Impossible fan I was really looking forward to see how MI would done as a feature film. How was it?
Well, it had some good things and some bad things about it. Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt was pretty good (this was before his wacky religious views were made public), The plot was a bit too complicated (this is one of those movies where if you have to use the restroom, do it before the movie starts because if you take a bathroom break during the movie, you will be totally confused when you get back to your seat).
Ving Rhames was very good as Luther, the movie version of the late, great Greg Morris's tv character Barney Collier, engineering genius.
As for the conclusion of this review, please tune in very soon.

I always regarded the complicated plot to be the best thing in any Mission Impossible film. I liked using my noodle. This was a rare blockbuster of the time that valued well told story over spectacle. There's actually very little action in it.
I loved the whole sense of paranoia the film crafted. It really felt like a spy film. And it had set-pieces of well implemented tension.

De Palma at the helm was a perfect choice in that regard. It was marvelously done.

Yeah, it's a shame De Palma doesn't do much these days.

@JustinJackFlash I read that after De Palma did Mission Impossible he said that he would never work with Tom Cruise again.

@JustinJackFlash I think it was Cruise, who was also one of the Film's producers, was micromanaging EVERYTHING.
