...amazed it's been so well received. Perhaps it simply hasn't stood the test of time, but there's barely even echoes of a quality film here. Terrible script and acting and the plot is barely coherent. Very surprised it's hailed as such a classic.

Since you've seen it, I'm curious about something. If it's the "final destination" why were there sequels? And why weren't they called, "The Final, FINAL Destination," "No, Really, This is The Final Destination," and "Are We At the Final Destination YET, Goddammit?"

I did actually really enjoy this film but I watched it when I was much younger and it hadn't been out for very long. It was more an entertaining movie than a scary movie though.

Final destination represents the last person who cheated death's design. The design consists of all the individuals who were supposed to die at any given occurrence. When you cheat death, death creates another set of circumstances for which you die. Tony Todd's character explained this in the movie.

the reason people like it so much, is that it's fun... great kills, a few surprises, crazy premise... what more could one ask for from a teen slasher movie, without the slasher?

It's also shot pretty well... the action looks realistic (well, movie realistic, not much CGI) and the movie isn't bathed in orange and blue and isn't underexposed like most horror movies these days...

Agreed. One of the best teen slashers. My favorite death was where that kid got decapitated. Lol The teacher getting stabbed was kind of far fetched though but that's okay because Death could manipulate the universe making it hard to escape. I like that the movie sets up rules and doesn't break them.

The one where the girl gets hit by the bus just as she finishes telling them off was a complete surprise... I remember the whole theatre jumping out of their seats... haha

Lol! I didn't jump though. I just sat there stunned.

I talked with Jeffery Redderick one summer when I worked at our local movie gallery. He told me that it was his first script meant for xfiles. He also told me that he only counted the first two as canon. He based His scripts on people he knew and situations that occured. So what you see are real people personalities and real life incidents.

This movie is amazing. I see why it has a huge amount of fans and I prefer this one to annoyong Ghost/Demon Possession crap we have these days

It's been well received because it's quite a good film. Suspenseful, interesting and smart premise, inventive and creepy kills and decent acting.
