Discuss Heat

Rewatched for n-th time and have few questions/observations:

  1. The Guard at the very beginning got himself killed by his own fault by Waingro, didn't have they at that time training not to stare in the eyes of your robber or kidnapper? I would think this is pretty common knowledge not to make them irritated, same with dogs, so I am not really surprised Waingro could not hold it, there are just impulsive robbers like this.

  2. Always noticed homeless guy with working big a$$ (seriously, are we in kindergarten?) CRT TV in his trolley, where he got the power, he got it plugged to car battery or how is it supposed to be working? Always found it strange and distracting, why not put anything else in trolley.

  3. Are we suppose to believe that thorough Neil would let slip Waingro away at parking lot so easily just looking for loong seconds at cops not paying attention to Waingro on the ground? Seem very implausible for Neil's character.

  4. I always wondered, are those city lights when Neil talks to Eady in the balcony after meeting her real or fake, because they sure look very fake and don't understand why would they use such horrible camera making look everything extremely flat and blurry, same thing happened at aerial camera at platinum storage which just got focused when it focused on parking lot with trucks.

  5. Waingro talking to Van Zant that he done some major heists in plural with Neil is lie, right? He worked with his crew just first time now.

  6. In bank robbery - why Neil tells banker he hits to let it bleed, is it for scary effect on other hostages or is it really healthier to not choke yourself with blood and even there he cares about wellbeing of hostage?

  7. Was Hanna's Philips TV set ostentatiously shown product placement or just coincidence. Same goes for Thai airways bus advertisement during downtown shootout. It's pretty much only brand I always remember from this movie - Thai airways during shooting (which is pretty 5hitty airline btw. by my experience, plane was pretty much falling apart when I travelled with them, flooded toilet with water going to aisle, oxygen mask falling out of ceiling for passenger in front of me, so no thanks again).

  8. The downtown police engaging with bank robbers in street full of people must be against police procedures, isn't? Exactly for reasons shown in movie it seem like extremely stupid idea trying to engage them right after they all get into car.

  9. Do we have exact numbers how many civilians and cops were shot dead during downtown shootout? I remember for sure killed only Hanna's partner, everything else was not clear and later in TV news they never state any number.

  10. How did Eady knew Neil has anything to do with downtown shootout?

1 THE GUARD JUST HAD HIS EAR DRUMS BLOWN OUT BY THE EXPLOSION AND WAS PROBABLY A FEW SCREWS LOOSE WHEN THE TRUCK ROLLED OVER. HIM LOOKING AT WAINGRO WAS MORE BEING OUT OF IT THAN ANYTHING IN MY OPINION.

  1. I'VE SEEN HOMELESS PEOPLE IN L.A. WITH SOME PRIMO STUFF IN THEIR CARTS. TV'S, DVD PLAYERS, COMPUTERS, ALL KINDS OF ELECTRONICS, AND YES, THEY PLUG IN TO WHERE EVER THERE IS AN OUTLET AVAILABLE.

  2. I AM MORE BOTHERED THAT NEIL TOOK WAINGRO ON TO DO THIS JOB WITH NOTHING MORE THAN A NAME TO GO BY. AS CAREFUL AS HE WAS SHOWN TO BE TAKING ON AN UNKNOWN WAS REALLY DUMB. HE COULD HAVE BEEN UNDERCOVER FOR ALL THEY KNEW.

  3. NEVER REALLY NOTICED THE LIGHTS BEFORE, EVEN AFTER SEEING THE MOVIE 20 TIMES. I WILL HAVE TO PAY ATTENTION NEXT TIME I WATCH

  4. YES, HE WAS LYING TO VAN ZANDT TO GAIN HIS TRUST THAT HE KNEW NEIL AND HOW HE OPERATED SO VAN ZANDT WOULD TAKE HIM ON

  5. I ALWAYS FELT IT WAS FOR SCARY EFFECT. OTHER PEOPLE IN BANK SEE BLOOD, THEY WON'T WANT TO GET SMACKED IN THE FACE FOR GETTING OUT OF LINE

  6. YOU PAY WAY MORE ATTENTION THAN I DO AT THE SMALL DETAILS LIKE TV BRAND NAMES AND PRODUCT PLACEMENT. I WATCH THE ACTING AND DIALOGUE MORE

  7. THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING MORE IN PLACE NO PROHIBITING THAT BUT NOT SURE IF YOU REMEMBER OR NOT THERE WAS A BANK SHOOTOUT VERY SIMILAR TO THE MOVIE THAT HAPPENED IN 1997 ( YOU CAN LOOK IT UP) 2 GUYS ARMED TO THE TEETH AND WEARING BODY ARMOR WERE THROWING BULLETS AROUND WITH LAPD FOR A GOOD PIECE OF TIME. LAPD WAS UNDER ARMED AND WENT TO A LOCAL GUN SHOP TO USE ITS WEAPONRY TO COMBAT THE ASSAULT RIFLES THE ROBBERS WERE USING. THAT TOOK PLACE IN EARLY MORNING TOO

  8. NO EXACT NUMBER WAS EVER RELEASED. ONLY CONFIRMED DEAD WERE MICHAEL, THE GETAWAY DRIVER AND DUDE FROM SILENCE OF THE LAMBS

  9. DIDN'T THEY SHOW A PICTURE OF MICHAEL CHERITO DURING THE NEWSCAST? DID EADY EVER MEET ANYBODY FROM NEILS CREW? I CAN'T REMEMBER. MAYBE SHE JUST ALWAYS DEEP DOWN KNEW HE WASNT WHO HE SAID HE WAS. BUT YEAH, STILL A BIG LEAP TO ASSUME HE WAS INVOLVED.

@RCH2288 please no caps, it's painful to read

  1. I thought about it, but other guards were OK minding their own business, I mean I can understand he could be in shock, it was just observaton that he sort of asked for what he got.

  2. There didn't seem to be power outlet under the bridge in middle of nowhere.

  3. Good point.

  4. OK

  5. OK

  6. not so sure about that, not that many people would see him after all, they were already sitting I think

  7. I am just way too old to think these things are coincidence, one thing is when brand is shown once, but that Philips TV set with visibly shown Philips was shown like 3 times and Thai airways were during important shootout there for few seconds also in your face.

  8. I remember, there was even crappy movie about it (don't waste your time), but here in Heat it was definitely by choice of police engage them in such place, would be curious about someone familiar with police regulations/procedures. It's same thing as speeding driver and pursuing him, what's better let him go or provoke him and cause multiple accident? Which is why in many countries poice will rather give up catching them, because it's way too dangerous for other drivers.

  9. OK

  10. They never shown her meeting anyone and she was too new for Neil to let her involved, which is why he didn't took her to dinner either, just remembered about her during dinner.

2) bums these days have iPhones. A while ago while at wal-mart this couple just bought two really crummy but none of the less these were smart phones. They activated a plan where they’d get unlimited text data and world wide calls for $37 a month. They were just released from prison too. Down at the beach another time, this guy spent all day in the bathroom stall playing on his iPhone plugged into an outlet. I also just saw a commercial for unlimited data costs $25 a month. I have an app that lets you text free using data. You can make phone calls too but you need to buy packs. $15 pack buys you 900 talk minutes AND you can make calls to Mexico and Canada too. In addition, every so often they’ll have a day where you can make free calls. You can buy the cheapest iPhone for 1¢. Lastly, you move into a hot spot of WiFi, you don’t need a data plan, you can just get your calls and text there. Sort of works like a wireless landline. People have always been scraping by.

Oh and lastly, for awhile I heard the city of LA gave bums $500 a month. So after the initial iPhone payment, they still have $475-$500 to spare.

6) penalty I guess. The script said it’s an object lesson if the others choose to mess with Neil.

10) Eady just guessed, and Neil confessed.

Updated 9) I think I heard somewhere just three died (Bosko, Cerrito, and Brendan) then 10-30 more just either hurt or shaken up badly, most just shaken up, the others either a minor cut or scrape from being trampled.

The guard has his eardrums blown out, he was being engaged by Waingrow, and was probably trying to read his lips/facial expressions in an attempt to comply.

Eady was smart... she probably figured he wasn't a mineral salesman by the hours he kept. Plus, the cops had a jacket on Neil so when the bank roberry blew up, they probably showed his mug.

Another question - if my memory is correct - (may be a different movie lol!!) Didn't this all begin to unravel when the nickname "Slick" was mentioned and Hanna picked up on it. I found that very weak, and the acting incidentally very bad in that scene. "Tell me what you got - tell me what you got" delivered with popping eyes and a shouty voice. (I was surprised he took on a De Niro habit there too) I think that the ease with which he tracked that down was implausible.

At the time I wrote my response to original thread questions. I did it in caps just to differentiate answers from his questions. I apologize if you find the caps annoying. Be that as it may, he asked great questions and I gave great answers. Having said that, it’s caps, not heiroglyphics.

So what?

I like hieroglyphics ;)

She made an assumption, like when Neil evacuated the hotel. She was nice like that.
